I received this today, a Otaki to add to my small collection of vintage slot cars. If anyone has one please post some pictures of it , maybe get some ideas on which way to go with the restoration.

Coming right up; you were lucky to find that one, they aren't that common. I finally found one a couple years ago, after looking for awhile. I had also found their Testa Rossa, incomplete, but wound up trading it after awhile, because it's really not a good model - unlike this Cobra.

Thanks for that Don that's a nice clean specimen , is there a cut out for motor Hight on yours? If not I may have a body with lowed body post's , it doesn't look like the posts have been altered . I haven't seen anyone else on the slot sites with one witch made me interested in it , after some research decided I wanted it ,I probably payed too much! but find another!

I thought of something else too Rastas: the rear holes on the chassis have sort of "nipples" on the top part which hold the chassis a bit further from the body than if they were just flat. Maybe on yours somebody has removed those to lower the body a bit?
In any case, if I were to run the car in anger, the first thing I'd do is try to lower the body and cut down the tires!

Don
Thanks Don, I thought there was something missing , the body isn't sitting on the post's flat that's why I thought I had been lowered, I have most of the paint off and found a little bit of the of plastic missing in the headlight surround under the where the headlight Lens sits so I'll have to paint it so it won't be a shelf Queen , and I don't see the point of a slot car if they don't get to be raced! so I'll be doing what's need to get the best out of it without going overboard.

We don't know much about them either! I have one; it's part of a line of bodies made in Japan, but that's about it..

Just looked in the new Slot Car Dreams book by Philippe de Lespinay and there is a short paragraph on the company: They made one kit, an Alfa Canguro with a clear body, and then this line of "crude clear plastic bodies".

Thanks for that Don, I'll have to get that book! I usually go to LASCM when researching slot car stuff , when I don't find anything their I know I'm looking for a needle in a haystack!

I just scored some of the large/outer curves for the Scalextric Super 124 three lane 1/24 scale track. It’s en route.
I'd love to get some of that track but don't get to see much of it in Australia, only once I've seen some on eBay a few years ago.

I've been working on collecting Australasian stuff and being a little irrational bidding I ended up with these Midori cars! I've had parts of the Honda F1 for awhile now and I was slowly printing some parts for it but when I saw these I had to have them. The mini is not Midori and must be at least 1/20 scale but the chassis is, the Ferrari body is not original the aluminium chassis had the Ford Gt40 originally and came with what looks like a original I think as it's got punched out screw holes in the right place for the chassis.

Added this to my collection of Australasian slot car's! Upon first inspection it seems to be in half decent condition for it's age ! Body has no cracks or chips, one of the exhaust is broken and missing and the chrome has worn of the roll bar but other than that it just needs a little paint! Chassis is missing the springs, post's and split pins, a nut is missing on the motor pod and some corrosion and tarnish need some attention and someone has put a 1/8 cox crown gear on the 3mm axle so that needs a original brass one all in all I am quite happy with it.

PS.
Not sure if these brass chassis Tamiya's come with threaded 3mm axles and wheels my other ones have grub screw wheels and blank axles? And those inserts are definitely not for this car ,

As Farr as I know yes, and body float. I have heard stories that When the cast aluminium ones came out it was really amazing handling compared to the other RTR cars of the time .

That's what Mr. Tamiya said in his autobiography!

I've seen some run pretty well, but probably no better than other well-prepared cars of the type.

Good find, but not really the right chassis for this car... the Lotus 30 came with a simpler twin-beam cast aluminum chassis, like on the Lancia-Ferrari. This is a slightly later and more sophisticated one that came with the McLaren, Ferrari P2 and Prince cars...

This one and their sidewinder version is more of a suspended motor pod type chassis than a real suspension, but still about the equivalent of most slot car suspensions....

Don
Yes I've noticed that, I've seen more of the brass chassis and cast aluminium car's here in Australia than the aluminium tube ones ! Did the brass ones work better than the original? I did bid on one awhile ago it but it went way out of my price range.

Found this on eBay, with a 1.32 flexy. The old AYK chassis looked a bit like the first 1.24th slot car my father brought me back in the early 70s I was quite young but I think it was RTR with a orange sedan body , anyway 🤔 when it arrived I inspected it and found that the back end was bent and twisted and had blobs of solder on the front axle tube and the chrome was lifting in places . After straightening up the chassis and cleaning off the solder it's coming up all right. I had a dig around an found enough bits and pieces to get it up and running once again, I've noticed that there might be something missing on the front pin tubes maybe a thin piano wire tension spring? I hope someone can enlighten me on this as I can't find any pictures of this chassis to verify this! I'm pretty happy with it so far and will order a new body for it from Pattos when I get the decals for another project!

Thanks Bill, from what I've learnt so far there was a bit of AYK metal in a lot of slot car companies of the 60s&70s right through to the flexy car chassis!

Great thank you TSRF for your help , I changed the front wheels because of tires were split and falling off , just wanted to get a roller set up! Any ideas on who would have this type of Tyer ? I'm in Australia so shipping prices are very high from the USA for one set of tires but any input on this would be great thanks!
