Hello,
I am pondering placing a slot car layout in my garage loft. The space available is 9ft by 9ft, although it's actually slightly larger both ways, but I'd like to put some grassy banks, etc., at the side of the roadway. The track will be above a model railway up there too. About twenty years ago I had a lot of "classic" Scalextric track and cars, but it's only recently that I have picked up a digital F1 set.
With the area being square and with the central area being required to remain unsullied by track, the space only lends itself to a shelf layout, which restricts the imagination somewhat. However, after some time spent tinkering, I've come up with the following that I think will offer a decent bit of interest and racing potential.
The design has been developed in AnyRail, using scalextric track, and is offered up here for the collective's perusal.
The track will be fitted permanently to the baseboard allowing for some scenery to be incorporated. Pinterest has been very inspirational in that regard.
The disparity between the two ends meeting will be sorted out by some elevation somewhere in the circuit, most probably the twisting section, leaving the section from the top left corner to bottom right corner for some fast running. the only problematic point I can see is the disparity between the pit lane and the main straight, but I think I can either squeeze it or trim a pit lane section to fit.
Have I got the curved crossover entry into the pit correct? Will it work like that? I confess, I've just copied what I've seen on other track plans to help with that...
As slot cars is really only slightly more than a passing interest, unmodified, RTR, box standard vehicles will be the order of the day, most likely single seater in nature. The emphasis is to be on control of the car through the track sections, rather than just all out speed.
Obviously control will be digital, and I'd like to explore some form of fuel load use. Is that possible with Scalextric ? If so does the car performance increase with "fuel consumed"? I'm assuming so, or what would be the point... I'd also be interested in an App for lap times, etc, which I think I can be accommodated with Scalextric. Most of the time, it will be solo operation, as I don't live near family nor interested friends, so some kind of timing and tinkering with fuel loads/pit stops, would aid with maintaining interest.
Although this is drawn in Scalextric, I'm open to using Carrera track, but I'm not getting on very well with the track designing program for that track. I'll try and persevere...
Any and all constructive thoughts or comments gratefully received.
Regards
