I read in a Spanish blog of odemo which is a very serious slot personage that there is some info going around (he says originating from Hong Kong)
about a big slot manufacturer which will stop production.

Does anyone know anything about this? Which big slot manufacturer is having this level of difficulties?

If a big one means Scalextric/Carrera/SCX/Ninco, then I hope is Ninco.

Scalextric and Carrera would be dramatic if they closed and SCX is just more fun than Ninco.

PS. By the way I am not trying to spread doom, in fact I think the slot scene is quite healthy and will remain this
way for long stretch. I am just curious.

I seem to recall this rumour first surfacing about 6 months ago. At the time many were putting their money on the said manufacturer being SCX.

But Ninco seem to be putting more effort into RC at the moment than slots. Most of their new releases (other than the E type) have been from existing tools. And the E type caused them serious strife in the US.

I guess all we can do is wait and see.

I heard rumours recently that a big company was going to buy another big company and when I asked the director of the big company to confirm, he didn't, so there you have it. This is how it works.

I'm sure that we'll see at the International Toy Fair next week who is there and who has a program for 2012.

Ember, you gave me a scare there with the SCX hypothesis. It is true that in the Spanish forums I have read some stories about SCX, but they came more as "jokes". SCX is the only one of the big ones that rocks my car (Scalex is doing somethings but just body wise).

Doug,

It is good news that if one goes under, another will acquire it. There is plenty of repetition out there and this would probably not affect the variety
of offers. Fingers crossed.

John,

Nah!... you got it wrong Artin is coming back biG BIG.

SCX would be a blow as they make some great rally cars no one else does, I don't buy much Ninco anymore due to a lack of normal cars not Ninco1 or lightened race cars, so am not too fussed.

Ember, I am curious, I have the E-Type (i actually prefer the Revell model), what were the problems in the US?

Problems with the E-type were mostly as simple as it being over clamped down on it's plinth. Pulled the lower part of the shell out of shape. Apparently the voluntary recall on it was taken up by many of the American dealers.

From my point of view Revell/Monogram needs to make a decision to either continue making 1/32 slot cars and support them with a good selection of replacement parts or just drop out all together. I have several Revogram cars that are in dire need of one part or another but there are no OEM parts available.
