Hello Peeps,

I would be interested to hear your views are on a For Sale board.

Just thinking out loud really, I imagine this was already discussed when you chaps developed the forum earlier. An alternative, if a user has items that they would like to sell (avoiding the hassle of Ebay
) could they post them & if so, where?

Any advice as ever, would be appreciated.

Jamie.

NO thanks guys, not for me. There is more than enough of that around. I`m sick of commercialism. Keep it pure and true to the hobby. No negative stuff about so and so did this. Be motivated by the need to discuss issues regarding all aspects of the hobby but not more nonsense about what is worth what and where you can get something for this amount ..if you are really lucky! Just my opinion but we have a chance here to have something based on a shared and common interest and not try and make money from it!

But what if someone didn't want a specific car anymore? He could use the Classifieds to sell it. Or if he wanted to sell his plastic track for some cash to buy materials to build a routed track?

I, in my brief stay at SCI, bought some kit off an American chap who had over ordered. I found a good deal and even with the transport, came out OK.

I have some ideas about classifieds that I'm passing around to some learned folk right now. bear with us for a while and see what comes of it.

My point is there are already plenty of opportunities to do that,E Bay ,swap meets etc. Once this starts it takes over. Then we start seeing sponsors etc appearing and then you cant say something because it offends another sponsor or other. Yes I posted on SCI recently. I answered a question posed...`where can I get SRA figures and accessories in USA?` Simple I thought , tell them Frank at Slot Car World USA carries them. My post appeared with SCW USA blocked out. ken tells me by reply that when I sell to his sponsors I can freely state who sells them. Now that has got to be nonsense. Any form of commercialism screens a mass of hidden agendas. If you go down this road you sell out and the element of free speech disappears. This may seem over the top but I would prefer a forum that sticks to the hobby element. It`s only my opinion and at this early stage I wanted to state what I think.

I just mean't for sale/classified board for people that want to sell the ocassional car etc, or wish to post a "wanted" ad.

Not Ebay auction links or a board used for traders to off load cars (bulk selling).

Also, items for sale in the U.K. shipping is abit more cheaper than advertsing stuff for sale on a U.S. board.

I can't see the harm in that
.

Jamie.

P.S. - I understand that this board is quite open with regards to links to dealers, admittedly its still early days, but I got the impression that it was one of the main criticisms of previous boards that needed to be overcome.

This whole issue is being thoroughly thought about and discussed - Nuro will make the decisions and I am certain that they will be good ones - be patient.

It was only a suggestion...

*runs away*

Jamie.

P.S. Seriously though, for me anyway purchasing from someone that you kinda know (through these boards) gives a lil' reassurance that the chances of being ripped off are reduced.

Ok I have put my case forward, will keep stum and let the powers that be decide...

Knew the US boards were restrictive in terms of accepting non-US sponsors but when it gets in the way of friendly helpful advice of where to get a product then its gone too far. One of my posts highlighing the new open top vette was deleted off SCI just cause the pic came all the way from SPHobbies in Spain.

Even if this board accepts sponsors it must be cleraly stated that that will not prohibit postings recomending or highlighing bargains from non-sponsors, etc. The sponsors get a deal of people seeing their adverts in their face and have the ability just to click to get to them.

If I'm going to sell a car I will use ebay but as you will have noticed from my requests for cars on this and SCI I think these boards should be used if you are trying to source and then buy/swap something rather than general selling. Its a bit like the cold callers - got no time for them. If I want something I will call you. However arguing myself around then it is nice to be able to offer opportunits to 'mates' prior to the whole world. I dunno (my world is confusing me today
)!

No pressure and I'm sure you'll make the right decision - you are right not to just jump in w/o considering the options

Finally (phew you all say) damn good job so far.

Don't worry about that.
