Aren't carboot sales great?

Last week i got a Scalextric formula 1 set for £4. It was the Silverstone circuit AND IT EVEN CAME WITH A RS200!!!

The week before that we got a lemans set (1998 Porsche GT1's) for £15.

And the week before that I got a huge box of scalextric track, with over 20 outer curves for a mere £10!

The only bad thing is that you have to wake up at 8.30 on a sunday morning...

What great slotcar stuff have you brought from a carboot sale

Been to a couple on the way home after swap-meets but wouldn't get up early to go to them.
Car boots in my experience have been no more than jumble sales, you're lucky if you do find anything slot-car related, and what you do find is usually a box of half a dozen warped straight track pieces in amongst some near perfect banked curves. (What does that indicate!!!)
If you see someone selling cars, they're more than likely to be Supasnaps XR3i's without bumpers where the seller wants "15 quid, mate!" because its "old and very sought after"

It's purely the luck of the draw - I am too lazy to bother, but there are are bargains to be had. A car boot sale isn't the same as a swap-meet where the sellers sometimes actually know the value of what they have!

what is a carboot sale? I understand that a car boot is the trunk...so are you saying that you go places and people just open the trunk and sell the stuff in the back? If thats the case, I had better get my hockey stick and ski helmet out of the back before the wife blows them out

Interesting culture difference showing up here. MK-2 says that you have to wake up at 8:30 on Sunday morning for this.

Here in the USA, if you're just waking up at 8:30 on Sunday morning to go try and find slots (or anything) at our equivalent to the boot sale (flea market here) you may as well stay under the sheets. Anything worth having has been sold and gone since 7:00 or so.

My favourite thing like this is that about 20 years or more ago I found some old scaley car parts at a garage sale in Brisbane. most bits of some cars & some bits of other cars.

I got married 2 years ago (nearly).

The father in law here in Melbourne had the reciprocal bits!!

Unless things are different in Mk2's neck of the woods, that is pretty much what it is like over here, Jim.

I long since gave up foregoing the Sunday morning lie-in to traipse round a muddy field in the hope of finding some rare piece. It seemed that about one in ten visits would yield a car, usually a 6R4 Metro. With no glass. And three wheels.

I have to say, though, that we seem to have them round here on a Wednesday morning, and they have been much more fruitful. Last one I went to - autumn last year - turned up a Ninco Calibra & Celica, both in good order. Marked at £3 each, I did the decent car boot thing and offered £5 for the pair!

When I was younger my dad sometimes took me but to be honest I would rather lay in bed, I hate car boot sales. Maybe if they weren't so early in the morning I would go on the off chance of a bargain as I would be on the lookout for more than just slot cars but the warm cozy bed is much more appealing especially on a sunday.

yesh two english pounds! i got two sierras and their track (set) for £5

I got a scalex black mk1 escort and plain white porky 911 for £10 with a box of track i gave away

oh and a few years back i got mighty metro set for £2, used the motors out the knackered cars for other stuff and sold the track the week later in the same field for £5

Really serious booters arrive around 06.00 am.I have been known to arrive at a boot 50 - 60 miles from home at this time. The early bird catches the worm, I've picked up mint boxed revell cars, lighted aston db and ferrar 250 from scaley, mk1 escorts, even some nice spanish stuff, as well as loads of fairly ordinary stuff. Last year I missed a set of scaley go carts. A few years ago the pickings were richer but even now I still see nearly mint fly etc.Some weeks you wonder why you bother, but as I have to get up early for work getting up early for pleasure is no problem.
