A Lotus Thread

Trisha started a Ferrari thread back in 2021. Well, time for a Lotus thread. After all, not only did Shelby and Ford kick Ferrari’s rear at LeMans, Colin Chapman and Lotus bested Ferrari often in F1 while he was alive.

I’ve been a Lotus fan since I was a teen in the mid/late 60’s. Since I’ve owned 10 1:1 scale Lotus.

I now collect Lotus slot cars almost exclusively, and would love to see what this community has by way of Lotus slot cars. Street cars. Racing cars. F1 and Indy cars. Sports cars. Vintage. Modern. Custom. I’ve got a ton in 1/32 and 1/24 scales.

SF doesn’t have a General Discussion forum, so this will be a thread for all scales. Unless the mods object, of course l

I’ll kick it off with a super rare Scalextric 1/24 Lotus 38. Scalextric produced 1/24 scale sets and cars for two years in the late 60’s. All are pricey now, the Lotus especially so. They have unbelievable detail, look at the rear suspension. This car was likely run, in looking at the pickup braids. For a detailed, fragile car to be this complete is a rarity.

This is photographed on a section of equally rare Scalextric 1/24 scale three lane track.

Nice Cortinas David.

I'm usually not too fond of these British saloons, but having seen Jim Clark corner this on two wheels in various photos, I've come to like the Cortina!

An unusual 1/24th vacformed Elite by a company called Tee Q (whoever they were).

Thanks Joel,

Another company I only learned about via ebay... I have one or two Tee-Q bodies, but didn't know they made an Elite! Wonder if it had something to do with Scuderia Scale; the plastic looks similar (vac-formed polystyrene I think), but that may be all.

I think TQ also did the Chaparral 1, but it's been a long time since I'vehad one in the bag. Based in Kansas City, I believe. All their bodies were blow molded in white.
I've got a Corvette Sting Ray in 1/24 and a Jaguar XK-120 in 1/32...

No trace of any ads in period magazines.

Don
The Chaparral 1 is by Scuderia Scale.

One of Charlie Fitzpatrick's finest fibreglass bodies the 1966 Lotus 43, I built this car a few years ago using the BWA slimline chassis pieces as the basis for the chassis, BWA wheels, decals from the spares box.

Beautiful work David.

There's just something about a 1/32 F1 race...

It was a good few years ago David, back when the Wolves club were still in Strykers Bowling Alley. I remember having a good look over your 16 back then.
Nice 40 bought from a guy in Southend, I am assuming the body is Betta Classic. The car was originally blue, but it had been varnished and turned slickly green over the years.

Still looks very blue to me Joel... nice car tho.

Don
You are right Don you can't beat a 1/32 retro or vintage F1 slot car race, I love the challenge of getting everything to fit in the restricted space available.

Eddie - I had no idea that I built the Lotus 16 that long ago, the problem of getting old is how time flashes past so quickly....

David
Just needed to test the 79 runs OK before I carry on building it, so I thought I would give the 107's a run.ed

A stunning model, Simon. Love the colour and driver detail. Thanks for the picture.
A photo of the chassis might give us a clue?

Cheers,

A few more Lotus from me.

A couple of the excellent Scalextric Lotus 49s that mark the transistion from the traditional green and yellow to the commercial era, at the time I loved the exciting new colour scheme but 53 years later as a nostalgic old phart I hanker for the original Team Lotus scheme again.

Two more Scalextric Lotus, this time the 49B from mid season 1968, my clunky scratchbuilt version was built about twenty years ago and I can't say I'm happy with it now.

My scratchbuilt Lotus 72 again built about twenty years ago using a modified and detailed Charlie Fitzpatrick "Classic" fibreglass body, decals from the spares box, not sure where I got the driver figure.
