A Porsche thread

I've harboured passion for Porsche's way of doing things down many decades, and continue to marvel at the many Porsche slot cars we can buy, or build, that make our hobby such an enormously interesting pleasure.

This thread, I hope, will result in 'everything' Porsche - your models, photographs, memories and yarns. And anything else, of course.

All contributions will be of great interest, as usual, and I, therefore, thank you in advance.

A few pics below to start the ball rolling.

I think the yellow and black colour scheme stands out well and makes the car easier to identify at speed. I have a Slot It Le Mans winner car in that livery. Will post it on the thread when get time.
Yes, but I dont think that would be the reason to raise the price would it?

Its a curious thing about some liveries...

Cheers

Trisha, isn't the Vegla one from Scaleauto?
Spykerman

Many thanks for pointing out my mistake. Yes, you're quite right. Scaleauto and not Fly.

Note to self: Pay attention 007.

Still nice models Trisha, no matter who made them.

This is a Fly, according to the label, although I stand to be corrected/shamed.....;)

Love that 908/3, Martin. I still haven't got one. A grave omission, which is why I'm impatient for swapmeets to resume.
I fully understand Laurence,
It certainly is a loveable little beauty (as yet, never run).

Just a question about said model 908/3 No.20 which you may be able to answer, or GDSLOT who showed a photo of one in a recent thread entry, are the wheels and tyres on this particular model meant to be all one, as my front and rear tyres appear to be plastic and not rubber booted as the others in my Fly garage, and are "fused" to the plastic wheels?

I am unable therefore to run it on my Scalextric track in its current form.
Plastic on plastic is a recipe for disaster as well as repair.

Are the plastic tyres intended to come off the current wheels I have, to be replaced by rubber tyres, or do I need new wheels as well and if so are they still available?

I have only seen Fly Classic tyres available (as seen on Pendle PSR site):
BRM Fly classic front rubber tyres 20x9.5mm ref s-118
BRM Fly classic rear rubber tyres 21.3x12mm. ref s-119s
But no 5 spoke wheels in black specific for Porsche 908/3.

Any advice would be more than welcome.

Martin

It seems very much that the tyres on your car have gone hard, as the standard items are apt to do from Fly. The solution is to very carefully cut into them with a sharp knife, and pull them away from the wheels with your fingers.

The tyres usually then crumble into pieces and fall away from the wheels.

Suggest you measure the wheels accurately, and search for 'urethanes on eBay, or the other usual retail outlets. I've followed this course with all my Fly Porsches, and really enjoy racing them as a result.

Hope this helps.

Hi mate, I think that your tires become hard because of age, I'd as Trisha says and remove back tires carefully and maybe leave front as they are since they become "zero grip", mine is an NSR Btw so its a different tire model and compund.

Sometimes is dificult to find the original tires for the Fly cars, because of the rims odd size center, so maybe would be a good idea to change rims in case you dont find the original tires, I have done this to several Fly cars.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Many thanks Trisha and GDSLOT for your suggestions, both very helpful.

If I understand the post correctly, there’s an NSCC swapmeet in Leeds on Oct 10. Long way to drive, though……

Mike
Thank you, Mike. Leeds is too far for me, and the route is a (the usual) nightmare. Perhaps Swindon will be a better bet next January, provided we haven't returned to lockdown.
Gaydon is the end of November, may be a bit nearer to HR2.

Ah! Thanks, Matthew. I didn't know that Gaydon is going ahead. Excellent news.

Thanks Matthew - I’d missed the announcement about Gaydon. Looks like it’s a special winter event, with (let’s hope) the usual festival in May 2022 as well.
Do you think there will be any Scalextric 911s there?……😸

Good ol' Pendle. All parts to complete my new Porsche arrived today. An important car in Stuttgart lore, this is the 1086cc 356 that won its class at Le Mans, 1951.

My thanks again to Frogeye for the abfab bodyshell.
