A Porsche thread

I've harboured passion for Porsche's way of doing things down many decades, and continue to marvel at the many Porsche slot cars we can buy, or build, that make our hobby such an enormously interesting pleasure.

This thread, I hope, will result in 'everything' Porsche - your models, photographs, memories and yarns. And anything else, of course.

All contributions will be of great interest, as usual, and I, therefore, thank you in advance.

A few pics below to start the ball rolling.

Often seen on our Slot Rally stage but not by me...until last night...NSR Porsche 997 GT3 Rally...they're pretty darned good, mine has a Shark 22 in a SW pod and is now the 2nd quickest car I've ever rallied.

Enjoyed several laps with this wonderful Fly 917 (posted above) this evening. It's fitted with Slot It running gear and I think the motor is a 20k Scaleauto unit. Not quite as quick as NSR's similar car, but it's not far behind.

A delight.

I just don't see the attraction of the 917...am I strange?
Haddock best be careful lest the dragons take exception. The 917 is lovely, Fly did some nice looking cars.

Kevan, beauty as they say is in the eye of the beholder. I think the 917 is a thing of beauty but only in it's original short and long tail versions and the plain K, as #11 above. Once they start growing wings and tails, in my eyes, they loose that graceful beauty.

I've always thought that the 917 would have been aesthetically improved if they'd not run with matte or satin black wheels. The Rossi roadgoing version originally looked superb with its silver body and silver road wheels. Today, the same car has black wheels and reminds me of a cocktail party a few years ago.

The host's elegant and rather pretty wife, during early evening, had briefly attended to a couple of new-born lambs in one of the outbuildings. Eventually, she arrived in the kitchen wearing a beautiful party frock, but hadn't yet changed out of her wellies...

Even my chum, the party's host, who was not known for his observational skill, noticed a certain incongruity in his dear wife's appearance...

Nope, not done that...not likely to either.
Daniel

Walking into the shower wearing your slippers, or stepping into the bath with your Y-fronts in situ are traits of busy people in their 40s. Your mind is thinking about important things to do with work and family.

When you reach your fifties, the only way to get a sensible reply to a question is to ask yourself that question, so you start muttering to yourself. In your 60s, you start to laugh at things that others don't find funny, and by the time you reach your 70s, you not only forget things, you just don't care about forgetting things.

At my age you sit in the bath in your pants, laughing, muttering and mumbling, and hoping you can remember to put your trousers on before venturing out into the world.

Nothing to worry about because if someone else spots three of anything, be assured that they will let you know...

A 930 below I enjoyed driving many years ago. Fast? You bet.

An old chum of mine in his Targa several years ago at speed. He was actually doing about 35mph when I took the photo...

Richard Jones fettling his 930 at Prescott hillclimb a few years ago. Shortly after this pic was taken Richard went up the hill in one helluva hurry. At one point the turbo popped so loudly that it frightened a female spectator so traumatically, that she chucked her tea in the air and shouted a very naughty word.

For me there are three cars that were Icons of my early youth, the Corvette C4, the Ferrari Testarossa and the Porsche 930, nowdays finding any of those in good shape costs a fortune, so you have been (no doubt) a lucky guy Laurence, congrats!

Thanks, Daniel. Your choice of Corvette, Testa Rossa and 930 is interesting. The 930 was a revelation upon its launch, and still ranks among the greatest road cars. Ditto the 2.7-litre Carrera lightweight.

Down many years I've driven thousands of miles across Europe but, if I had to do the same distances today, I'd probably go by train. The Bugatti Veyron is fast but its performance in a long traffic jam wouldn't even come close to a bicycle, even with an old git like me pedalling it.

Motoring life has changed. I'm just so thankful that I was sufficiently lucky to enjoy motoring during days when driving was such a huge pleasure.

Anyone know if we're any closer to the release of a slot 919, please?
Ever wonder what if?908 had a flat 12!🤔😃 View attachment 287255
That looks more like a flat-16!
If it was possible and better I'm sure Ferdy would have done it already.

A lovely project, Kevan. Greatly look forward to seeing progress with the build. Below, the 16-cylinfer CanAm 917 as it is today.
