A Porsche thread

I've harboured passion for Porsche's way of doing things down many decades, and continue to marvel at the many Porsche slot cars we can buy, or build, that make our hobby such an enormously interesting pleasure.

This thread, I hope, will result in 'everything' Porsche - your models, photographs, memories and yarns. And anything else, of course.

All contributions will be of great interest, as usual, and I, therefore, thank you in advance.

A few pics below to start the ball rolling.

since this is a thread of Porsche, I thought this might be the place to ask. There isnt too many images online that show enough detail of the car I intend on painting as a slot.
Its the VIP Porsche driven by Quinn, Quinn, Van Gisbergen at the 2013 Bathurst 12 hour. Spark made the car in 1/43, but I cant find images that show the what the logo on the sill panel is and while im asking, the side of the rear wing also. The logos are different than the car that was run at Nurburgring, which was made by Carrera, which I have.
This pic is the best resolution I can find. Does anyone have any better images, or perhaps the Spark model?

This car is the Scalextric Porsche GT3RS from the Top Gear set. It has a little Stig driving. Although this car is completely box standard, it's one of my fastest slot cars with only my NSR FIAT 500 Abarth quicker around my short and simple track.

Beautiful pictures and interesting information about a racing championship Laurence, I suppose that the series were abandoned because of the increasing popularity of the Rally Championship, although the cars have nothing in common other that the bumpy roads and high altitude venues. Thanks for sharing !😀

This car is another Scalextric Porsche GT3RS. This car is a SR (Super Resistant to crash damage) car sold in a twinpack with a Nissan GT-R.

The Mountain Championship was abandoned for several reasons. There were safety considerations and, of course, commercial concerns. The series failed to attract lucrative sponsors, as more and more people turned towards F1 and the great God, television.

Safety concerns centred around getting rescue teams and medics to crashed cars high in the mountains quickly enough, which was all a little confusing, especially as Mountain climbing had a remarkably good safety record.

All a bit of a pity that it came to such an abrupt end.

How was your day at the seaside Laurence? Hope you had good weather with fish and chips.

Just ghastly, Matthew. Truly 'orrible. Just one high point. Witnessed big fat bloke driving his new Ferrari around in circles in search of a parking space. Saw him waddling along a beach later... What a sight. The sort of people who own Ferraris these days, eh!

Baseball cap wrong way round, just covering huge outbreak of headlice. The severe haircut gave me a clue. Big headlice prob. Anyhow, now glad to be home after getting lost, which I enjoyed. Eventually spotted a road sign that read: " Mess 31 miles."

Home for tea. Sandwich, Christmas cake, Earl Grey and three glasses of good. Life can be trying but there are compensations occasionally.

Sadly Ferrari sell their cars to anyone who can afford one rather then just those who can appreciate the car for its design, heritage, technology and performance. They aren't a cure for headlice or obesity.

Found a box of bits this morning. Yet another I'd forgotten about. Further projects in need of attention. I'm often startled by discoveries when searching for a clean shirt. Probably best to continue wearing the current one, therefore.

Mmm that Lotus needs to be finished Laurence, and pictured with “the Camel” 🐪 and Michelle🐫😉

Ps. By the way, the famous Dakar is being raced as we write, a nice rally/raid to be watched as an appetizer before F1 starts😀

I agree, Daniel. All on my list of things to be done. Regrettably, coverage of the Dakar here is scant nowadays. Probably always has been. I'd guess that to receive moving pictures on Mrs Grumpy's electric television, I'd have to donate money to Rupert Murdoch, which is not an option. He's got quite enough as it is.

Have they decided who is going to be given the F1 championship in 2022 yet?

A Bergspyder I changed from white to red in an attempt to silence people, who quite wrongly imagine that Porsches are merely functional.

Red was the chosen colour for the 1970 Targa test cars of course.
Mike

We should all take a vote, and nominate our Champ of Choice. Pick whomever you like to bring yourself in line with the FIA. My choice is Hans Stuck for his outstandingly white overalls and immaculate linen flying helmet.

You can't have Dr Helmut. Too Grumpy and dreadful hat.
