A photo that recreates Hans Herrmann and Herbert Linge driving flat out under a level crossing barrier on the '54 Mille Miglia, thus missing a Rome express train by a whisker. They finished 6th overall.
Same here Laurence I haven't been to Beaulieu since 1978. Maybe the trip down put me of going again, got soaked after the drivers side wiper on my 105E Anglia broke and I had to move the passenger side wiper over.
I did photograph a Porsche while there
Porsche F1 1962 was all the information you get. Think I took four or five rolls of film and over half were of the motor cycles. Now a days that would probably be four or five hundred shoots 😁 .
Below, one of several crashes in which Rolf Wutherich was involved. A pilot and mechanic Wutherich was in James Dean's 550 on the occasion that took the American actor's life in 1955. Wuterich was badly injured, physically and mentally, but went on to finish second in the '65 Monte with Eugen Bohringer in a 904.
After the Dean crash Wutherich took to alcohol. He married four times, and spent time compulsorily in a mental hospital after attempting to kill his fourth wife. Something of a tragic life he died in 1981 after crashing his Honda Civic into a wall.
