What better way to start the day (any day for that matter) than "A-Porsche-Thread", fresh brewed steaming hot black coffee, a few videos of two gorgeous 1:1 models playing sweet Porsche "music" with a "video bomb" by a 917 in the second video (I don't think even Bach or Wagner could have written anything so beautiful), followed by a few pics of another car in my garage with live footage from the actually race it won.

"Porsche 908 LH. The car should be chassis number #004 which raced in the 1968 Monza 1000 km by Ludovico Scarfiotti and Gerhard Mitter. The car is one of the few 908 LH ("Langheck" which means "Long Tail" in german) that originally was built with a steel chassis instead of the aluminium one".

The YT video intro comment makes interesting reading apart from the first line listing Derek Bell and Jo Siffert as the winners when in fact actual winners were Vic Elford and Gerard Larrousse in the No 3 Martini Porsche 908/3.

I'm sad to say I don't have either a 910 or 908 LH in my garage currently, or even a plastic kit to convert but have them both on my "wish/shopping lists".
I hope you had an enjoyable if not successful race last evening which should be replicated as often as possible, the same for the 1:1 vehicles, as it is even sadder to see them confined to a shelf or museum gathering dust.

I shudder to think of the forces transmitted through axles, driveshafts, suspension units, gearbox, engine etc and more jarringly the poor driver when rubber makes contact once again with tarmac.
(I drove a Go-Kart at Silverstone many years ago and my spine never recovered!)
Raining cats and dogs here also right now, but my bike riding is consigned to a training roller in the lounge as riding on the roads especially around here is like playing Russian roulette.....with 6 bullets in the gun!!
I dabbled in my younger years with a little Club racing/TT but knee problems curtailed that. Kept my made to measure original bike though (Dave Lloyd Campagnolo GS 1981/82) plus a later Trek 1.7 full shimano 105.
I look a picture in lycra shorts now, so just as well I don't venture out I suppose!

They were in much poorer condition when I first bought/received them but after an initial clean to remove major dust and grime, complete disassembly, washing everything (apart from motor and wiring/lights/pcb) in hot soapy water, I found that a very light application of Autoglym Super Resin Polish (for fear of removing tampo printing) really helped the shine and finish come up to what you see in the photos. Plus the usual repairs to lights/wires etc.
I keep them in a glass cabinet when not being run on the track, with a light dust with a microfibre cloth every so often so that helps keep them in reasonable condition.
A final few Scalextric Porsche 962's (unless/until I buy more of course), some have poor paintwork which could either be repaired or completely stripped and refinished with a new paint scheme/livery.
Depends upon finding correct decal sets as these were originally tampo printed from Scalextric not decal etc so I haven't decided yet.
Mirrors, wheel trims/ducts lights etc appear to be readily available for restoration back to original condition if finish isn't too bad but if like the Toshiba No 24 side panels/cowling, sometimes its just too far gone.
I hope I'm not repeating myself here, if I am I'll put it down to age and being to lazy to reread the entire thread.
My love of the 917 began in 1973 when I got the Airfix kit followed by some of the other kits I have already shown. Then during the first, Autumn, tern of racing at my school club I needed a faster car and while down at Wonderland I asked Sid what he had in the way of fast 1/32nd scale cars and he showed me a Parma Womp car. I can't remember what the body was but I obviously didn't like it because I bought a 917K vac body for it. When I gave up slot racing after leaving school this was the only car I keep and it finally disappeared sometime in the 90's. This one of the cars that I have since duplicated in my current collection although the original was plain Airfix Post Office red brush applied and just the #7 and Porsche decals added.
My current Womp 917, now fitted with urethane tyres.
Then following another discovery at Wonderland I bought a WinnWagon 917/10 for use on our open night at the school club, you needed a tough car as you could get knocked off at anytime.
The Jouef car came in three colours, as well as the light blue and white above there is a hard to find, read expensive, dark blue. There are also three different body moulds, the difference being the shape of the front winglets, I only have two of these shapes.
Whilst still only running 1/40th and 1/43rd scale I get a couple of D-Slot 43 917Ks
Even though I got back into 1/32nd scale cars for some reason I didn't get a 917 slot car until last year. I did buy a built Airfix 917K kit to convert at some point and also the Matchbox 917/10 to replicate the WinnWagon as it included an extra set of L & M decals.
Then middle of last year I bought a Fly 917K and a Fly 917LH body.
Then completing the circle I got a WinnWagon 917/10 which at some point will get painted as the L & M car and the Matchbox kit will get built as the Martini car.
