A Question About Revoslot Inserts

Are they glued in, do we know? From the factory, that is? 🤔

I want to upgrade my 911 to the wider rims that recent releases have been blessed with and thought a gentle tap on the backside of the stock inserts would do the trick.

It didn't, so I pushed a little harder and that did squat too.

Now I'm loathed to really attack the things 'cos I got form here and have destroyed a couple of annoyingly reluctant Slot Its previously.🙄

Has anyone else discovered that Revo' glue theirs in??

Not seen any glued in, but about 25% of the screws seem to have been put in by Thor himself (assume he only works part time as other screws have come out no problem) so maybe he was on wheel duty the day yours was out together.

I guess a similar solution to removing inserts from plastic wheels might work, being heat the wheel in boiling water for a little bit them try to edge them out slowly with an exacto knife around the rim, once you feel a bit of movement push gently from through the wheel. (Even better would be to pull with flat nose pliers but from memory those inserts don't have spokes so nothing to grab on to.)

I only own one Revo car, an early Marcos that I had to buy to race at Molesey. Its inserts were glued in.

I like to think I'm reasonably capable when it comes to getting bits apart without breaking them, but no luck with the Revo inserts. One was so firmly stuck it was beyond repair after I'd finally got it out, another was badly bent, just two survived. Whatever glue was used during assembly is very effective, if permanence is the judging criteria.

As an aside, Revoslot turned out to be a very unpopular class at Molesey and was soon dropped, so my Marcos body now sits atop a Pendle 3D-printed chassis, fitted with the same motor, gear ratio, wheels and tyres as NSR's GT cars. It's half a second slower than the NSR cars - 6.3 versus 5.8 - so sits unloved and unused in a dark cupboard. The best place for it and a reminder that throwing good money after bad is never a great idea. :(

I had a devil of a job trying to remove my front inserts from my new Blue CLK, one eventually gave after brute force, the other broke just leaving the outer rim of the insert in the wheel, you can see what looks like adhesive in the wheel. (post elsewhere re wobbly wheels axle too short)

My Toyota GT One wheel inserts came out very easily with no signs of adhesive.

Turns out, on that side of things, I didn't need to call up the previously mentioned three musketeers.

Perhaps my initial, tentative, explorations had been enough because when push (tap) came to shove (second slightly more vigorous tap) the first just dropped out and, suitably encouraged that they could indeed be removed, I tapped a little harder still with the more reluctant second insert and out she flew.

Result! 👍
