(Posted on behalf of Phil B, aka 'Aberstone' in Abergavenny - South Wales. I had a chance to drive on this track last year during the Wye Valley Rally)

Just a few bits of info on the track.

It's an 8x4 sheet of Kingspan insulation board with 4mm ply glued to it and cut into three sections for easy transportation. Scalex classic track with three crossovers painted with smooth black weathershield paint for the tarmac area, a wet look forestry section and a white gloss painted snow section with Norwegian style log cabin made by Douglas Pocock (thanks mate).

The uphill alpine section was made from layers of kingspan shaped and painted, cork tiles are used for the track side and the old wire brush in the electric drill makes the rough bits and water filled ditches. Log piles and tree stumps were made from bits of our christmas tree with trees being inserted into brass tube and are removable for transportation.

Marshals and farmer with shotgun have had their bases removed and brass rod up through the foot slots into brass tube in the cork tiles, which also can be layered and made into rough stone walls.

Timing is Ninco and a good lap time will be in the 19 seconds and of course the track can be run in reverse.

Here are the top times posted on the track during last years
rally event.

Classic
Roland Brooks 23.32 XK120
Tom Graham 23.42 Healey
Don Stanley 24.51 Stratos

WRC
Phil Barry 21.55 Corrolla
Phil Field 21.85 Megane
Phil Field 22.13 Megane

Its a very challanging track to drive on!.In 2003 we put flour on some of the
bends which made it tricky!. We will be holding our 5th rally event in november.

Fantastic details, just the sort of track I would like, but, I don't think my crafting skills are that good!

Details like the fence being knocked on the alpine section really make it life like!

I like the idea of a single track for myself too as there is usually only me on it at home.

How have you done the connecting to ensure the joints are flat and have good electrical connections

Thanks for the comment lads - the Rapier I think is Airfix which I picked up at a swap meet for 50p, some one had painted it matt black with what must have been a toothbrush, the glass and screen piller were missing and the only chassis I had at the time was - don`t laugh - a scalex Mark one Escort so it doesn`t handle very well may be I`ll chage it one day.

The tyre marks across the grass were made with the good old wire brush in the electric drill to gouge out the tracks and finished with Mr Swords paint and sawdust method. All in all the track cost about £200 and took 114 hours to build so it`ll be a while before I do another one.

Each track piece was soldered with telephone wire "jumper" leads to give a good spread of power and the three sections use DS connectors underneath.

I picked up the Fiat 131 at the Autosport show for a couple of pounds and it was fitted to a scalex C5 Europa/Panter triangular chassis, Idont know what make it is but the plastic shell is a dead ringer for the Team Slot resin one and I reckon they took the mould for it from one of these. I fitted a team slot chassis and decals and an SCX motor with Ninco wheels and soft tyres and it goes very well.

The Roger Clark Cossack Escort is from the 1976 Western Mail International Welsh Rally and to I need a rally plate above the number 1 on the door to finish it off, I`ve scoured the net to get a good image to make a decal for it but have been unsuccessful, PLEASE can any one supply a good image so I can finish the car off.

Thanks to Scott for the posting.

Cheers - Phil B.

I`ve got in this time by another route and I can`t now get it by Yahoo or Ask or Google, I`m running out of ways to access the site, if I try a route once it won`t let me do it a second time.
Each visit could be my last!

Hi Mainframe - I`ve got the track part listing for the rally track
C.157 Short straights x 4
C.158 Quarter straights x4
C.159 Half straights x9
C.160 Full straights x6
C.8006 Crossovers x3
C.248 Hump bridge x1
C.178 Skid chicane x1
C.151 Standard curves x3
C.152 1/2 90degree curvesx9
C.156 Full 90degree curvesx20
In your case substitute one cross over for an extra C.160 full straight and you`ve got a two lane track.

I don`t know whether you can work out what goes where from the overhead shot, if not I`ll get the track out and write out the track pieces in order from the start line alternatively you could juggle the pieces on an 8x4 sheet of ply or MDF but you will need to use the raised section at the "alpine" end because the track will overlap.
If you`re not going to cut the sheet into three pieces it will be easier to connect as on the rally track some bits of track have to overhang the joins.
Hope this is of some use - let me know
