I want to make an illuminated rotating sign (ambitious, I know!).
Can anyone offer advice as to the best way to make it? I am trying to find a low Rpm motor (1-3 rpm) but I have seen a geared unit for $10!
One to get the masters thinking... Any help appreciated.

Here's a 3 rpm unit, maybe the one you've seen already:

Transferring the rotation from the motor unit to the sign is the trick. How to do it without spending too much money though. Here are some shaft couplers from another site. A little more expensive than I'd like to see, but you'd need only one. Reduce the gear motor output shaft to a smaller shaft (music wire or brass) that will fit inside your sign pole, and there you go. If you want a lit sign, it's a bit more involved.

Hi Knoath,

the connection might be done much cheaper with the stuff the model-flyers use to connect the steering servos with the flaps of the plane. They only will add a few cents to the bill, looking already the same like the item Datto referred about. BTW: Looking fwd to see the outcome of your project!
Illumination without wire might be done with mini-model-solar-panel, Cap and LED. I think I even have seen that as a kit from one of the German electronic or model shops...

Regards Jens
