Derek Cooper has just built me this Airfix Sunbeam Rapier....I`m incapable of doing owt for myself...

I asked if he could give me something a bit racier than the old cube motor.....so Derek being Derek he sent me a total beast!
I`m git chuffed with it!

By the way, wishing you a speedy recovery Derek.

Cheers,
Kev.

Derek replaced the floorpan & running gear! It goes like a scadded cat!

Looks like a full set of MRRC parts, with their 3-pole motor and steering unit. Not sure about wheels and tires - did he tell you what rubber he put on there Kev?

Those MRRC motors can go very nicely, but I believe they often need a rezap; did Mr. Cooper do anything like that?

He is indeed a treasure trove of good performance advice!

Hi Don...I`m afraid I didn`t ask any questions...

But the photos don`t do any justice to the wheels.
The motor runs AOK. There`s a local model railway shop with a big old Zapper when I need motor mags doing.
Cheers

Ah, you're a lucky man Kev! When I asked about that in a local model train shopped, the guy answered me like a poor alien, "ah mon pauvre monsieur, don't you know that model trains haven't used those types of motors in years? No need for rezapping ze magnets any more..."

The Rapier looks excellent Kev, Derek has made a very nice job of it. I've got a Rapier built in the 60's with a K's motor, you probably remember it from an old thread I posted a few years ago.

They look like MRRC Novi wheel inserts. If Mr Cooper did not zap the motor (get well soon Derek), Mr Secchi might oblige for a small fee. If he starts talking about doubling your pole pieces humour him!We must have an MRRC race one day I was thinking about taking a few to Netley.

I like the idea of a 'MRRC' race to, but it might be needed to expand it to 'open frame motors in the Triang RX style with integral rear axle bracket' thus allowing Atlas 206, Pitmann 196b, Strombecker Hustler etc.
That reminds me John, I need a couple of motors zapped, ok to put them in the post? usual free dip into my spares box next time I see you

A healthy traditional revamp there, Kev. Good to keep things in the family line.
Looks like complete MRRC Novi wheels with the big "brake drums". Different tyres, of course, though the fronts may be MRRC.
A long time ago I put an open-frame MRRC into an Airfix Maserati and that felt like a scalded cat too, even though it was a five-pole, which I think is lower-revving.
