Just been comparing the old Airfix Eagle Weslake with the new Scaley version.
You can`t fault the modern Scaley car, but Airfix still did a pretty good job on their version, & it goes very well.
Cheers,
Kev

As lovely as the Scalextric version is Kev, it's not even close to being fault free: the #10 car was raced without an engine cover. Since Scalextric went to the trouble of modelling a nicely detailed engine, it seems a shame that they didn't chop the engine cover off for this particular livery. It would have made a very nice car superb.

The Airfix car looks pretty good too. How does it perform in comparison with Scalextric cars from the same era?

Thanks for the info & great photo Dopamine!

The Airfix cars performance is well on par with Scaley models of that period.

Great Airfix Eagle Kev! A friend of mine has his from when he was a kid, and we had a lot of fun trying to get it to run on the original tires, which had become as hard as rocks. The front steering looks great as the car slides around the curves.

I've wondered about the color and finish of the Scaley Eagle. The blue seems flat and has quite a bit of gray in it. The Airfix version has even more gray. I've seen Eagles at the Monterey Historics and some other races, and from my poor memory, the color seemed to be a deeper, "bluer" blue.

Anybody see the Eagles back in 1967? Did Airfix and Scaly get the color right? The real car must have been quite gray back in the day, as both chose to incorporate a lot of gray in the blue.

If ever the phrase, "pictures don't do it justice" was applicable, it is here. The real car is almost impossibly gorgeous, the prettiest F1 I've ever seen!

I've spent more time in my life than I should admit to in trying to reshape the nose of various Airfix Eagles to almost halfway right. Obsessive? Moi?
But I like the Scaley one much indeed, engine cover or no engine cover. All those years and tubes of miliput wasted......

Not wasted John. You've supported the Milliput industry all those years and honed your own nose reshaping skills, in case you ever want to go into plastic surgery as a sideline...
