Just read that De Cad had passed away on Saturday, a great character and Le mans stalwart of the seventies, that green Lola with sponsorship over the years from Tate and Lyle, Sealink and Hammond's sauce ,also his old Alfa as his raid car will remain images to cherish.

Not only to be remembered for his great efforts at Le Mans, but for the famous Spitfire near-miss overhead piece he did to camera. Most people are familiar with it, but it's always worth revisiting.

Gone at 76. RIP.

I heard that he once snuck into a Renault factory at start of morning shift dressed like the workers. This plants also housed their motorsport division. Made some notes on the LM cars , then hid in the toilets until lunchtime then strolled out the gates.

Victory by design was a great documentary series, shame it's not available on DVD.

His genuine enthusiasm and knowledge really shone through.
