so, here's an overview of the circuit

Land vehicle Tire Vehicle Car Motor vehicle

The name "Albertona" is composed by the names of my hometown and the famous Daytona Speedway. The characteristic of my track is similar to Daytona with its curvy infield and vast highspeed banking.

well, I hope my first attempt to post pictures work. Here are some more pics:

the paddock and pitlane was inspired by the old Nürburgring (pre 1984)

I still hold to the old Carrera Universal132 slotracing system of my childhood. I had a huge amount of track material collected over the years and in my opinion the pick up system on the Carrera Uni 132 cars is the best ever invented. I take new cars from MRRC, Slot.it etc and convert the pickups so I can use them on my track. If it works, it is superb and driving is great pleasure.

for me the most exciting period in motorsport was from mid 60s to early 80s. That is of course the era I chose for my track scenery, as you can see. Inspiration came from classic racetracks like Reims, Spa, Nürburgring, Le Mans, Brands Hatch...etc.

I had some characteristics in mind how the track should be before I started building.

I wanted to lay down as many meters of track lenghts as possible. No waste of space. The actual track lenght is 32 meters and the overall size is 4,90m x 2,70m. The fastest cars do a lap within 9,9 sec. at a voltage of 16V.

Each spot on the table should be easily accessable for picking up stranded cars.

Scenery should be interesting, diversified and detailed, but also well protcted from crashing cars.

Track and buildings should be illuminated.

Here is Albertona by night in birdview

that's it for today. Hope you enjoy the photos.

I am speechless.....and rather overwhelmed by the sheer quality of those pictures ! Seriously, there are a couple of shots there (pits particularly) that look as close to a real life shot as i've seen.

wonderful, wonderful work

Frank, that is magnificent! You've created a miniature racing world that is completely immersive. As nice as any track I've ever seen. The design, the atmosphere, the aesthetic choices you have made are perfect. The best!

It's nice and all, but I bet that storm drain in the paddock doesn't really work. Talk about cutting corners.

But seriously what you've accomplished with plastic track is aesthetically on par with some of the best custom built wood tracks by Slot Mods that are commissioned for tens of thousands of dollars.

Reminiscent of some of the home tracks featured in some of the early slot car books, when the hobby was still focused towards home and club racing, pre-commercial racing era.

yes, whith eagle eyes you've spotted the weak point of the circuit: the drainage! Rain races always end up in a desaster

Hi! I've been asked about lap times. The qualifying lap record time is 9.77sec set by the Gulf GT 40 (slot.it). A very good driver with a perfectly set up car may make 9.2, or 9.3. I don't think one could go any faster. But who knows...

So, here are some pics from the building period. Enjoy!

Styropor massaker! I the background you can still see parts of the old scenery.
