AMT - 63 Corvette Stingray

Yes, this is a great looking car! Split window Vettes are so rare & expensive because they were only made in '63. Yours has nice paint, what brand of paint did you use?

The paint is a spray-can of Tamiya TS-8. It goes on very nicely if you don't follow the instructions. Holding the can 10 to 12 inches away doesn't create a good shine because the drying agent dissipates before going on the body. The drying agent helps the paint keep that "wet" look after drying. 3 light tac coats a minute apart followed by a final wet coat. Hold the can 6 to 7 inches away and move it a lot faster across the work to avoid runs. That's how this car was painted.

Very very nice indeed,fabulous chassis as always, those 63 split window vettes are an absolute classic. There's a great article on the 63 vette and 64 notchback stang in the September issue of Octane magazine. Back in 89 I was torn between a 72 911, 70 Alpine 110 or 68 C4 vette, the 911 won out.

Great looking car! My own AMT Stingray (many years back) was powered with an MRRC slimline. I sprayed it dark green and it was one of my best cars. Was sold around 1980 along with many conversions including a Renault Dauphine, three VW Beetles and a Morris Marina. I don't see any ready-to-run split window versions of the Stingray so maybe I'll go for a 1/32 kit. Several on eBay -

I've separated the windows for the next 63-Stingray I'm building to replace this one. They sit a little deeper in the window frame that way.

The split window was my first (and only) slot car for commercial tracks. I believe it was a Revell. How do you make your chassis? I like the simplicity. Have you covered that in previous posts?
