The side panels are a deep Navy Blue to echo the blue of the Scottish flag in honour of JYS.

Humbrol Midnight Blue is close enough for me.

Here's the latest;

Why thankyou gentlemen!

Blue? Black? Frankly I wasn't sure so I called Uncle Ken and asked him . . . .

What did I get?

A right Froth Job!

"Blue!, Black! . . . I don't care if you paint it yellow with Maroon spots!" He yelled . . .

"As long as the name ELF is on it and there is somewhere for the driver to sit!"

I won't be calling him at this time of night again!

I don't like making tea all the time . . . .

QUOTE (1000simca @ 28 Dec 2011, 18:05) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ... I can ask you a question that you used to paint the spoiler? I bought a tamiya (without comparing with samples or photos, eye) and I find it dark, so I'll have to buy another spray ....

I could noy find a decent colour match from Humbrol, Tamiya or any other model paint suppliers.

So for once I broke with tradition and used a real car spray can.

I used VAUXHALL REGATTA BLUE which may not be available outside the UK.

But you might find it as OPEL REGATTA BLUE.

Have a look online? Best of luck.

Scottish blue to honour JYS? New to me.....

On my own photos from Zolder and Anderstorp 1973, the side panels on both 006 (Cevert) and 006/2 (Stewart) seems to be black. But OK, these photos are not from our digital age, so they are not that sharp. Standing on the grand stands I always saw them black as well.

By the way, on my Minichamps diecast versions the side panels are black.

As an amateur, but dedicated Tyrrell researcher I would like to hear more about sourches for the Scottish version.

H'mmmmmm . . . I feel a "FROTH JOB" coming on as Uncle Ken might say . . . . .

Let it go about the blue or black kids?

I'm painting my car Midnight blue ok?

As for my sources, I like Tomato, Pepper and Horseradish!

I'm pretty sure that I read about it in Jackie Stewarts book "Winning is Not Enough", but I may be mistaken.

If I am the world will continue to spin and the sun will rise on another day.

These are toys . . . . . not a matter of blue or black!

Here endeth the lesson.

QUOTE (Deslotted @ 29 Dec 2011, 00:43) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Top Job on the Tyrrell Ian, I haven't built a car for ages, but I've been re - inspired by your latest outstanding effort.

I'm starting to think about hacking up a Flyslot williams and turning it into a Tyrrell 010.

Like the one in the link

Cheers Ted!

I had exactly the same idea in mind with a decrepit old Airfix/MRRC Williams FW07 in the Candy 1980 colours with Derek Daly at the wheel.

I'm not sure if the car is Blue or Black though . . . . . . .

Does anyone mind if I don't give a monkeys?

Ian H - I think we fully and 100 percent missunderstand each other. I am not stating that the sides panels were black, just saying to my knowledge there were so.

If they indeed were dark blue I would accept that on the spot. Just wanted to hear your arguments for it. I will pull "Winning is not enough" from my shelf and start investigation once more right away. Being a Tyrrell enthusiast I am only searching for the truth.

Agreeing with Tony it is your car, paint it the way you want it. I here and now will pull out of this topic. My Queens English seems not good enough to participate in any more discussion.

Happy New Year, Holger

and may uncle Ken with the huge, guffawing laugh rest in peace.

Hi Ian

Top notch work on THE FAST BLUE THING as usual.

I know you don't have any 'shelf-queens' at Ian-Racing...

...but when you retire her one day, I think you should consider some of that tartan-carpet; for that tyres in slippers look with the ol' 006 !

That little tinney of Humbrol only cost a few more pence than a can of Red-Bull; & tastes much better, as long as you add enough thinners !

You'll thank us for moaning about paint BEFORE you glue the Elfs on ( the sponsor signs I mean, not the little woodland folk ! ).

&

No 'froth' from Ken; thank goodness !!!

Your position as chief-engineer is safe on this one; not busted down to tea-boy, YET !

Cheers

Si.

Lots of work tonight for seemingly little reward.

1, New set of rears trued.
2, Front tyres trued and axle tubed.
3, Ride heights set.
4, Guide blade installed.
5, Rear radius arms installed.
6, Rear wing installed and strenghtening arms fabricated/fitted.
7, Rear axle bearings lockwired into chassis.
8, AND YES THE BLUE IS NOW BLACK!!!

Axle tube installation.

I'm not completely happy with the paint detailing on the engine so i'm going to have to revisit that. But for now its off to the land of nod to the east of eden . . .

Just to return to the colour point (ohhh NOOO) the air box was always matt blue for some reason....

Does anyone know why?

This build is going well Ian - your attention to detail seems to be expanding on each build, well done.

Its possibly because of the fibreglass or plastic material they used wouldn't accomodate a gloss finish without cracking. We are talking 1973 here and thats my theory and guess.

My car will be getting a coat of clear varnish!

Gloss gloss gloss for me ta!

Anyway we are nearly there . . .

Engine installed.

Cockpit interior added and hand painted. Engine re painted with a light inkwash to drity it up a bit.

Wee Jackie fabricated!

Jackie at the wheel and assembled.

The front tyres have had a light coat of clear lacquer to give a "zero grip" performance. Side radiator details added.

Finally a better view of the rear.

ELF/Goodyear decals go on tonight. But I'm waiting for a delivery from INDYCALS in the USA for the other decals.
