But just maybe, Scalextric have been brave enough to use the existing curved lane crossovers sections as the basis for their lane changers. I suspect that this aspect might not be finalized until the last possible moment, when all the feedback and flack has been collected regarding SCX and Carrera systems with their many months head start. I would suggest they could well have alternatives already designed, but just waiting for a concensus before sanctioning the final product for production.
