Today in the Pancake Cup I raced (and finished 2nd) an Aurora Porsche 510K, while there the matter arose of what was the real car it was based on, my initila answer was 917/30, but I think I was wrong, I actually think it's based on a 917 Spyder that raced in Interserie in the early 70s

Sounds like a good day was had at the Pancake Cup

The 510 debate came up at 'the other place' (aka SCI) last year. The consensus was that the 510 never existed and may be a hybrid of the 917/30 and the 908.

It's worth searching for the thread "Porsche 510K CanAm" - there are some cool pics.

Found this on SCI

Looks like it was an early 917/10 but the Aurora model has the wrong nose - it has the 917 Spyder nose.

I might give mine a repaint - the Lime Green Boeri one looks quite nice, though it would probably be a better idea to get hold of a tatty one cheaply.

Pancke Cup was great fun, I'm glad I had that idea, watch this space for further Pancake racing.

I started the thread over on SCI that was mentioned above. The consensus was that the AFX 510 didn't exist. Throw a spoiler on the back of this Porsche 908-3 and they look similar. Not quite there though.

Cheers eh,

I think the 12 intakes on the Aurora "Porsche" rather points to a 12 cylinder car, not an (8 cylinder) 908

Yeh tried that, didn't find any full size cars just HO slot cars.

Perhaps its what the larger scale racers call a thingie - is that a word HO racers use?

My personal opinion after a days research using google is that it's a 917/10 possibly chassis no.016, it has some inaccuracies (like the vents at the front) but it's no worse than some of the other Aurora bodies from the time, remember the body was designed to go over a magnatraction chassis, if you want a real challenge try identifying what cars Polistil bodies are supposed to be.
