Should be good for that one, I've started ordering parts

As Red Bull will tell you, you have to keep making improvements otherwise the opposition catch up

Good guess

Almost right...two or three spare cars

Probably a couple of pancakes and a couple of G+
Just experimenting really, trying to find out WHY my cars are so quick because I really don't know

Shouldn't be worrying...the more spare cars I have the more I can lend out if anyone is struggling

There's still no guarantee I can replicate the speed of the ones I have anyway, maybe the pancake the the G+ seem so hit and miss

I don't worry, only when council tax bill reminder comes and I haven't the money for it

My biggest worry is trying to replicate the performance of my G+, it would seam that out of the 5 G+'s I own no others either run as smoothly or have as powerful magnets.

I'm not too sure but I'm thinking the un-smooth running could be down to the motor bearings maybe worn too much, just an idea, haven't a clue really, I'm looking into finding some NEW bearings to see what difference it makes, and some NEW magnets to see if just maybe some have lost power over age. then the fun starts, taking them to bits with brushes and brush springs flying everywhere and almost impossible to put back...the joys of slot racing.

Maybe we need a separate CAR thread for this sort of chat?

Before I buy new magnets I want to figure out why some are strong and some not, were they like that when they were manufactured 30 years ago or have some deteriorated quicker than others and they were all pretty much similar when new?

Is there anyone on here who was racing them back then and can remember?
I've just had delivery of some AW magnets, but they're not as strong as my last AW magnets were...anyone else found different strength magnets in AW's?
I think next thing on my shopping list will have to be a gauss meter

QUOTE (woodcote @ 5 Jan 2012, 16:31) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Are you sure they are AW X-traction and not AW Thunderjet 500 mags? The latter will be shorter and so slightly weaker.

Is it a big difference in strength?

Definitely X Traction, I took them out of an X Traction chassis

Fitted them into a MT chassis and gave it a spin around the CHORC track last night, and then my normal race car, there was no comparison

Here's a thought, although unlikely, I don't suppose the magnets are stronger in the 4 gear chassis and the Ultra G. I think it was magnets from an Ultra G that I used but I'm not sure.

I have my front as low as I can get it and the back jacked up quite high

I've just tried measuring the tyres but it isn't easy as the fronts are somewhere between the front wheel sizes and rear wheel sizes on the tyre gauge, and the rears are too big for any of the holes

I pretty good guestimate would be around .390 Front and about .480 rear

Wish I could find some that smaller for the front

QUOTE (slowracer @ 18 Jan 2012, 13:30) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>My principal G+ set-up is, lowest possible G+ tyres on standard rims, tyco rear rims with .418-.426 depends on the chassis and motor strengths!

G Plus for me has been lowest fronts I can find for standard rims and PVT 10's on the rear on standard rims

OK I got another UG and 4G today, at first glance the magnets don't seem any stronger but I have a couple of ideas

On my normal race car the white magnet is at the front but on the two I've prepped ready for testing it's at the rear, not sure if this makes a difference or not as it just looks like they're painted wrong the polarity is the same on all three.

I've now fitted the wider AW pickups on the other two and my theory is this, not only is there more area to touch the track but there's more area near to the front magnets, in essence they act like a flux collector, a bigger flux collector than you'd get just using the narrow pickups, a bigger area for the magnetic pull to pass though!

Whether this is true or not I don't know, all I know is this; I can't get the grip from any other car than I can with the original that won the pancake cup and xmas do and that is the only car I've run wide pickups on so far. Maybe I just got lucky with the magnets, or maybe it is the pickups!

More testing needed
