Hello all.I am trying to set up a Autograss series. It is not linked with our club as yet but when i have a basic plan i will put it forward to them.I also hope to involve my other haunt, the Nercs up at Washington,Sunderland.Another thought is a 8x4 oval than can be transported to random venues to allow various clubs to race on neutrel turf at a half way point.

The basic idea is to pick 4 of the 10 classes of autograss cars. From slower low budget cars to the top specials.Handicap starts on club tracks will allow all cars a level playing field. On a oval track inner lanes could run class 1 cars and outer longer lanes run faster cars.My plan is to build 4 cars to a simmilar standard and work out the handicap in relation to race lenth.

The main idea is low budget racing.Tuning mods will be limited. The main criteria will be making the car look like it should for the respective class in real life grassin. So mostly cutting and grinding bodies, throwing away glass and fitting mesh screens. Also to maintain increase in performance through the 4 classes chosen.

I would appreciate any input from any one,i think this could be so much fun to race 4 sets of cars all in 1 race.If any one can post photos of real grass cars it would be a help.My idea is to race class 1,3,6,10. Google these autograss classes and see what you think.

Thankyou DD

Very good vid dodgy looks very good its quite muddy and bumpy is that what you propose the layout to be like, reminds me
of past racing just a chassis and a shell nowt else , so will there be an interior and driver, cos just running a chassis and a body is censored censored.

and i presume non magnets aswell

Started work on a class 6 car this afternoon.Looks like something out of mad max!!Big front wheels and low chopped arse end.Photos to follow.

This is the start of my class 6.Must look like a front engine, front wheel drive. In grassin they usually run 15 inch rims on the front and space frame back end with small wheels.Main objective is to achieve the look of a real class 6 car.Much work yet to be done.

Ronaldo, good point on the interior. Will have to put some thought in to that. The cars want to look stripped out inside but i suppose open motors and wires may look a bit gash. The track will have to be flat, wether club track or an oval.(which am hoping Chief may be involved in).No magnets.(wood track).CheersDD

Autograss championship suggested rules and cars as follows.Cars based on Autograssers when i was racing about 15 years ago.

Class 1 autograss cars were standard Mini,s (1000cc)
For the slot car version 80,s type standard Minis to be used(i know they are GT ones but are cheap as chips).Standard car with full interior. No glass, mesh screen, standard motor, wheels and tyres.Slight lowering of front guide, front axle support and better axles/bearings allowed.

Class 3 autograss cars were tuned front engine rear wheel drive cars, such as Escorts mk1/2 rovers etc.
Slot car version, any 80,s style Escort,Rover,Capri etc.Must be inline 1pc standard chassis.Body may be cut/filed as wanted.Upgraded motor, axles, wheels, tyres(no NSR wheels tyres).Front and rear wheels should be about the same size to match the look of the origional class of car.Semi/full interior.

Class 6 autograss cars were highly tuned front wheel drive front engined cars.Runnin big rims on the front and the rear space framed, sitting low on small wheels.
Slot car version to be based on any front wheel drive car.Must have bigger front wheels than rear.Any 1 piece chassis, any motor configuration. No floating motor pods like NSR or Slot it.Any motor, tyres upgrades allowed. No brass or metal chassis or parts. So basically anything from Ninco angle winder to a Scaley sind winder.Full/semi interior.

Class 8,9,10 autograss cars.Purpose built single seaters.
Slot car version almost unretricted.I have not built a trial version yet,but will have a max wheel base to keep em short so they are not to fast.Basically a cut down F1 car with a cab on and exposed motor.Any motor, configuration, mounting pod, tyres wheels.etc
This is just a rough idea of the cars and rules. The cars pictured are not finished, they are just to provide examples of possible builds.
Cheers DD

Great to see your mock-ups at York the other night DD. It would be good to get a portable oval up and running to compete with these cars. I'll definitely have a go at one of the class 1 mini-stox style cars, to begin with.

Another good night at York on Weds, petty the video didn't come out. I'm useless with that camera.

Glad you had a good night All. thanks to the Nercs we have gained a extra much needed member.Shame the vid failed. To finish 0.15 of a lap behind Pete in a 3 minute race was close to say the least.
I might build a mock special this weekend. So,no racing for a month, will have to venture to another club in the next few weeks.Cheers DD

Hi all,i have started work on my class 8 special. It is only in rough stage of build at the moment but gives an idea of the car.It has a mrrc slimline 38000 mounted sidewinder in a cut down slot it chassis.Nsr gears and will have nsr wheels when finished.
The body is a bit wider than i would have liked, but that is to miss the floating Slot it motor pod. Also the nose is a bit long but that is to hide the guide. This is just a test run at the moment. Will handle like a pig ithink as it is so short.
