Carrera le Mans Race Set. (371/9123) 29.99 punds stirling.

It was mentioned in SF before Christmas. Thought that not all might have realized but there are still quite a few sets around. You might need to 'shop' around to find an argos store that has some left - but with a little patience - and some help using the online shopping system - you will find them, but you might have to be a little of a detective and not give up straight away. Also if there is no set in your where abouts then you might check out places where your mates live - that should sort things out.

For those of you that do not know about the limitations of the argos online system. It will not check if the product is in more than one store at a time. You have to do that manually. Also it is such a stupid system that if you for example want to buy two sets and the shop only has one in the warehouse the system WILL say that they are out of stock (e.g. it will not inform you that they actually have one set available). This is how you can find these sets:

1) you search for the carrera le mans set and put it in your virtual shopping trolley.
2) choose the 'pick up in store' option.
3) put in a city or postcode
4) if it says 'out of stock' try one alternative shop.
5) repeat 4 until you find a shop that has it
6) do not forget to 'book' the product, and get the adress and directions as well!

good hunting!

just came home with another couple of sets the other day... - my home is becoming box central now my girlfriend says...

... oh I'll sneak some up in the attic tomorrow...

apologize that this is a UK only thing though...

I'm gonna slip in here, this topic is near the top in the swop-shop, and I'm absolutely sure that nuro wanted this kinda stuff in there..

and why is it there? um because I had to toy with the idea of getting some seconds hand for well over the argos price.. Grah, difflock, mk2 and 3.9 could see it..

you know who you are - OWNED!

yeah alright, but I thought since it is February now....
people might think that it is too late... I know that I thought so anyway,

aaa I still did not understand the thing with the 'swap-shop' it is not a swap is it?

oh inte, and by the way it is not an EXCLUSIVE Carrera set - they have 1/24 scale cars. These sets are Carrera EVOLUTION and they have 1/32 scale cars...

But Intergrali, you are the gent who had the smallest working area to create a layout in the last "UK Wars".

Tell us what you are going to do with 3 Carrera sets?

Wallpaper your bedroom perhaps!

thats cause the computer is in the smallest room in the house! fick or what?

had it been in the lounge it would have been a lot different and believe that you would have trouble fitting in a circuit if I designed it in the lounge, I now have my laptop working properly so can set it up in my room which is a bit larger once cleared a little and will let someone else set up a track!

then in the garage I will be having my routed track as well as a plastic track in my room maybe put the carrera out doors

Rob.
Oh the madness of it all!
I have three of them now as well - added to the two larger Carrera sets I already had!
Complete bloddy lunacy - I don't have the space at home either, but one vaguely fermenting theory is that, when the piled up boxes eventually push me out of the door, I may of necessity come up with some suitable premises elsewhere. There is this vague and admittedly somewhat desperate thought that all the track will be an investment for a local club that currently remains just pie in the sky.
No, it's just madness really.

I must admit that having raced on all types of track for over 40yrs The carrerea track is probably the best plastic track available today My own current test track is nearly as smooth as my old routed track ( sadly destroyed through water damage)+ it gives me testing facilty for US proxy races and magnetraction .Thanks argos

ok, this is a little 'of track' but - especially for those of us who only have temporary track built up now and then - what about 'testing' out different designs - by for example asking the participants in each venue what they thought of the particular track layout for the weekend (?) or similar...

This is what I mean - some of the design proposals (e.g. 'what you can do with two or three le mans sets') or others, could be intentionally set up and 'tested' ('raced' upon) and then the participants could be asked what they thought about the set up. Such a discussion could make an interesting thread I believe. So what about the following points to be included (does not have to be carrera only):

1) pict of layout. for example from one of the 'design' programs available. (inclusive description of track needed etc)
2) description of the venue. (how it came about, who participated - e,g, young kids, men, women etc.
3) what was the arrangement with the driving (e.g. 'racing' classes, which cars, equipment etc.)
4) what did people especially like with the whole slotting experience (was there any difference between what kids liked, what men and women liked, young and old etc...)
5) pros and cons with the used cars or 'classes' according to different participants.
6) pros and cons with the layout as seen from the participants of the menue (and maybe 'lessons learnt' for the next one etc).

This is just a number of suggestions - does anyone think this would be of interest to do? You are ofcourse welcome to start a new thread...

Interesting fact time!

43% of the Carrera cars selling on UK Ebay right now are the Audi and the Bentley from this set.

PS By the way, don't expect to make your fortune if you are thinking of selling yours! They are not fetching top dollar.

QUOTE 43% of the Carrera cars selling on UK Ebay right now are the Audi and the Bentley from this set.

So Moped, we can assume that the sets, and carrera track, were in demand. Buy 2 or 3 sets, keep 2 cars, sell the extra 2 or 4 so you can buy more cars, different liveries or manufacturers. But the carrera track was the draw?

yes I think they were quite popular for that price - first I saw them were everywhere and then I had to get out of my way to find them.... got a few ... - will keep the spare cars though, you never know, might be useful for a future rebuilt to the newer model.... (air-intakes were slightly differently placed...). Also, a line-up will look nice in my future scratch build bentley garage....
