Just bought a big box of Jouef track & accessories.
Had these three cars in.
Basically they were just encrusted in 45 years of muck.
They`ve had very little use as the original pick-up shoes are present.
20 minutes to clean & service them & they go great.
Only £20 for the lot, I`m not complaining!
Cheers,
Kev.

I'm really beginning to like these old cars

I think it's because they all look like courgettes on wheels; especially the green ones

Yummy

I always enjoy your posts Kev, looking at your top-notch collection plus it's great to read posts concerning old classic's.

I bet those little Jouef cars are good fun to drive. Do they drive like Formula Junior GP cars?

All the best,

James

The Jouefs are funny. I think we've said this before, but the magnet is really the weak point in these cars, so while a few run okay, most just don't have much oomph left. They're still very popular here, but the guys who do races with Jouef cars generally use neo magnets sold by a guy in France.

Other than that, they're pretty sweet running cars and a lot of fun to drive. And frankly, for the price they were quite a good deal at the time. I would imagine that more were sold than Scalextric in France, given the price....

The FJ is probably a pretty good comparison.

Don
Thanks for the kind words Jamie.
Hard to compare the little Jouef cars to the Scaley FJs. They were different scales on different types of track.
Basically both are excellent!
For something that was only ever a toy they were extremely well built. The quality had to be there when they were in with the makers of Corgi Toys (Mettoy/Playcraft). The cars are a good weight & stick to the track great.
Not the quickest of slot car, they were designed for table top racing in your dining room. But they have the same motor that Jouef HO trains had so are very reliable.
I`ve never had a burnt out motor yet. Only achillies heel is the fact some pre 1968 motors need re-magging (£2 fix!).
Cheers,
Kev.
Yeah Don, I think they outsold Scalextric in France & certainly saw off Circuit 24 ( another great make!).
Interestingly enough on the price point they were pretty expensive here in the UK (known as Champion here).
It was nineteen shillings & eleven pence for a solid coloured car & twenty one shillings for the plated BRM & Ferrari F1.
This was mainly due to the fact there was extra purchase tax as we were not EEC members at that time.
Cheers,
Kev.
Do they still have mastermind in the UK Kev?

Just do it Mirrorman.........every Fireball XL5 fan should have a Jouef car or two......
Nice to hear from you f143-hope you are well.
Cheers,
Kev.
Well, Michael (Mirrorman), if you're keen to get into the little Jouefs, I have one of the Ferraris slumbering in a cupboard, plus a spare motor. Neither runs well, though apparently some work and a new magnet would help.
By the way, thanks for the message about the VIP parts arriving. Glad they're of use and interest.
If Mirrorman decides not to diversify from 1/32 and 1/24, is anyone else interested? An exchange of a few 1/32 parts would be enough. Admittedly, the Ferrari seems not to be rare.

I've got 1/24th and 1/32 cars, plus a bunch of Minic Motorways cars / track and accessories ... so what the hell, may as well get into these lovely little Jouef cars too.

So yes, I'll take the Ferrari and the bits you have offered Rob .. thanks. I'll PM you to settle the details.

*Walks away singing*

I wish I was a spaceman, the fastest guys alive ... I'd fly you 'round the universe in Fireball XL5
