BBC 4 at 8:30 UK time
Three-part series celebrating the hobbies, pastimes and leisure pursuits that have preoccupied the people of Britain during the last century. As a nation, the British have long been renowned for the creativity and enthusiasm they bring to their leisure pursuits. Whether by collecting cheese labels, painting characters on eggshells or finding unusual uses for sticky back plastic, Britons have always demonstrated enormous passion - and often, deep eccentricity - when pursuing the serious business of having fun. The first episode features enthusiasts of some of Britain's best-loved games, hobbies and leisure activities - and pays tribute to those with more offbeat preoccupations, including D-I-Y obsessives and those with a penchant for collecting street furniture.

Anybody know if this is accessible via Net for us furriners?

A couple of the French channels now replay their shows on a website for the week following the original broadcast (public TV stations of course...).

Go to Google.co.uk and search "how to watch iPlayer abroad".

Virtual Private Networks are how many foreigners watch UK web broadcasts, but are a bit complicated. Software that makes the process much simpler is now widely available.

A bit disappointing - a couple of seconds of some slot cars and another couple of seconds of petrol powered "slot" cars

If you play it in slow motion you'll see that they were all rail cars.

The model car coverage was negligible but the programme was quaintly amusing.

Cheers

Well that was disapointing, without the history lesson they could have got a lot more in,butat least some bits were quite funny.

At least the program that followed, Grand Prix the killer, years was interesting. At least when we crash our cars no one gets hurt, unless you're standing in the wrong place and the car flys of the track.

There were a couple of bits with rail cars and another bit with a two lane what looks like Aurora track slot cars with thumb controllers
