Building on the above conversation... it would be interesting to hear from owners of high current digital dc slotcar systems...

1/ What total max currents do you run?
2/ How do you manage current overloads?
3/ Are you content with current arrangements or would you like improved current overload protection?

I am building a high current dc system and want to get the over-current protection right so would very much welcome the collective wisdom from across the hobby.

Not a high current user but I did measure current on a Carrera digital system.

No load on car (tires off track) ~0.650 amps each for all 5 cars (all stock except silicon tires)

Max throttle running (tires on track) peak currents approaching 1.5 amps

Max load (car block by finger tires on track) 2+ amps

4 ghost cars (running ~ 4 second laps) and one user controlled car exceeds the Carrera kit power supply (~ 3 amps) for my track...

If I recall correctly, the CU consumes about 0.40 amps with no cars on the track and no wireless controllers charging nor wired controller present. But, the 2 wireless interfaces where connected.

I redid these measurements with a new power supply and have better results. Rather than have them here under Scorpios, I'l put them in the Carrera Digital area...

Any regulated and adjustable power supply 8-18V and at least 10A will suffice.
