I browsed and searched the forum a lot, but I didn't find a proper thread, so I start one - hope I didn't miss one by being too stupid to find an already existing one.

Question is simple (and I hope, not too stupid):

How to remove the magnet in a car (at the moment, all Scalextric) without breaking anything?

I only managed this once, two times, one of the two plastic holders, holding the magnet from each side, broke.

Any clever tips, or is it just carefulness and skill?

I found that if the thing won't come out of it's own volition, put a pencil on the table and put the car on the pencil with the pencil in the middle of the magnet and then press on the extreme edges of the car, that gives a decent bend and out it pops.

With the car the normal way up - place your thumbs on the top edges of the chassis - left and right of the magnet. then use your fingers to gently push the centre of the chassis, directly under the magnet, UP whilst pressing DOWN with your thumbs.

The magnet should pop out before anything breaks.

This works on my F430's, Nissan GTR's, Gallardos and Porsche 997's - all DPR.

With the older cars where the magnet is glued in from the underside of the chassis - I find the best way is to drill a 3mm hole directly above the centre of the magnet from the top side of the chassis and push the magnet out with a screwdriver or allen key (if the drill doesn't do the job). I use a PIN CHUCK not an electric drill !!!

EDIT: MPJBud and I posted at the same time. His pencil trick is a good one!

Thanks a lot!

Didn't think of bending the chassis to get the magnet free - was afraid of breaking sth., but now, it sounds clever to me. Will try tomorrow, many thanks!

ZITATUse the Force Ulli

That does not work - most Germans lack telekinetic forces, sadly ... But if one of you will visit us in Berlin, you may show me. Maybe, I can learn that by watching! :)
