Following the success of Double Trouble we thought it could be fun to race Hard Body 1:24 1950 -'65 GP cars and 1949 - '67 Sports/GT cars with the option of using modern components. The rules are available via the CSCRA link below. Double Trouble cars will still be eligible

We will race Sports/GT on the Raceway and the GP cars on the Scalex track as they're no wider than modern 1:32 F1 cars.

Cheers

John

Edit: This will of course be at Wellingborough, link below.

Le Mans Classic is the weekend of the 7th/8th so no clash there

I came accross these in the workshop while I was looking for something else, had them for a few years (I didn't build them) but there has never been an event that they would be suitable for, I know they are pre 1950 but is there any chance that they might be ok for this event

Especially as I have now got some suitable Ortmann tyres for the Gilmore special!

Great John

I'll make a start on them right away!

I found this line in the rules which seem to predict that something like this might crop up for this class,
"If, however, 1/24th scale racing proves popular then the standards can be expanded to cater for other periods"

I've checked out the cars and the geen #4 car is a Monroe, driven by Gaston Chevrolet to first place in 1920, I'll motorize this car but I think it will be too high and narrow to run at all well.

The #5 car is a Gilmore Speedway Special (Wetteroth chassis) driven to first place by Kelly Petillo in 1935 the first ever win for the four cyl. Offy engine.
This should convert quite well I think

BTW both these are Aurora kits.

Hi John

Sounds like another good event....I'll see if any of our club would like to come along.

Sadly our round if the GB Slot Rally 2012 clashes with Double Trouble next year, so this is an interesting alternative.

Cheers

So apart from the Betta and Classic Vanwall and the Merit 50s GP car kits (and SMER reissues) what 1:24 hardbodies are available for the F1 class? I believe that 1:20 is the sort of standard for injection moulded kits in this scale.

Tony,
Car standards can be found on the CSCRA web site. Link below.
It's all based on the previous event at North London and discussions between myself, Dick Smith and Malcolm at Wolves a couple of years ago.
North London have never repeated that first event and Malcolm has never found space in the busy schedule at Wolves to fit in an event so John and I thought we should give it a go at Wellingborough to see how polpular it will be.
There are Ortmann tyre recomendations in the CSCRA rules.

Owen,
Whilst I think most people will go fo Merit based GP cars there are a number of resin bodies around if you search.
Don't forget it's not just for '50s cars you can also run a 1 1/2 litre car and there were several of these cars produced by Cox, Revell, Strombecker etc.
For the Sports Cars there are lots of kits around and Carrera have been producing some excellent 1/24th cars over the past several years.
Many of the 'Double Trouble' Sports Cars will also be eligible.

Cheers.
Mick.

Pre-50's cars will be fine as long as they're within the rules apart from the date. I believe we should make it easy for people to race.

Unfortunately the guy who made Resilient Resins bodies died some time ago.

Apart from the bodies Mick listed, RS Slotracing carry a range of resin 50's & 60's GP bodies. Hopefully Charlie will add to his range of 1:24 Classic bodies.

Cheers

Hi John,
Yes, any Sports car that raced before the end of 1967 will be eligible.
The end of 1967 provides a logical break for Sports cars with the end of the unlimited prototypes at Le Mans and the rapid increase in tyre widths that happened during 1968.
Cheers.
Mick.

QUOTE Charlie Fitzpatrick (Betta & Classic) is now doing a 24th scale Vanwall as a hard (fireglass) body.

I've just remembered that he also does a vac formed Ferrari Sharknose. I wonder if he could be persuaded to do a hardbody version?

Cheers

John
