I did Don. The last time I raced in December I won the first heat with loads of traction and no deslots at all after a very enjoyable scrap with Chris Chris and then went onto a lane where silicones had been used. Sideways everywhere, no traction at all and came nowhere. They were banned at all the clubs I raced at in the early years.

Not a matter of taste, my only motivation for attending in December is to properly prepare a chassis/tyres for the June meeting. No point doing that if silicone tyres are used.

I am preparing for the Orpington swapmeet and have been sorting out my stash of silicone tyres, 34 pairs of black ones and 16 pairs of coloured ones.
Not bad considering I don't like them.
Annoyingly, I couldn't find them on time for CM otherwise I could have sold the lot there.

Yep, it was definitely extended to the 500 km races, mostly Monza, but if Burg did it as well, then Ring it is!

While it's none of my business, on a matter of motoring history, the 1968 Nurburgring 500km was not one of the main sportscar races in Europe. There was a 'real' Nurburgring 1000km in 1968 which attracted the major works sports car teams and there was also a relatively minor 500km race that was limited by a maximum engine size of 1600cc and included no works teams - the biggest were national equipes such as Ford Germany, who entered lots of Ford Escorts.

If you're going with the big European 1000km sports car races then it makes sense to stick with the four selected together with their 500km prequels but not any others. Mind you, it also makes sense to add in the two BOAC 500 (mile) races of 1967 and 1968, which had international entries at least as good as the contemporary races at Spa, Monza & the Nurburgring.

Just talked to Samy and he agreed that we could also add the BOAC races at Brands Hatch.

Looking at the list of Nurburgring 500 and 1000 km races it seems most years they ran both as separate races and some years just a 500 and some years just a 1000km.
It's a can of worms!!
So Is the '68 500km ok Don?, there is a specific car in that race I want to do!
If not i'll find something else.

Although this year's theme is very good, with insight, it surely should have been the first 55 or 60? years of Le Mans to celebrate the centenary.
Perhaps we can adopt that theme for 2024.

So we're now including the Brands Hatch (BOAC) races? As far as I recall this was not mooted last summer when the theme was announced. All my research - and there is a lot, given the timespan and number of circuits - is for Montlhery, Monza, Nuerburg and Spa not some foggy wet circuit stuck on a forlorn island off the west of Europe. Still, foggy and wet often means the 'Ring and Spa-Francorchamps!

Not wishing to be too controversial, I must point out that including Brands Hatch would make little difference to the choice of cars, whereas including the Ring 500, does.
No skin off my nose, I am doing Montlhery cars. Or was it Monza? Or may be Spa. Or...

I don't see why you can't just stick with the original specified races. There is such a huge choice of cars available (almost any GT car ever made it seems) I see no reason to expand the meeting to include minor races.

ok, I'll stick with 1000km races, just that the car I was doing was raced in a rather fetching livery in the 500km race!
All the 1000km ones are a bit dull.
