It has recently been announced that the FIA GT1 World Championship will join the British F3 and British GT Championships at the meeting to be run over the weekend of 29/30Sep12 at Donington Park. What was already an exciting weekend has suddenly got a whole lot better!
Unfortunately the FIA commandeered the Paddock Suite at the last minute therefore this time we were unable to run our track, we did receive free tickets for the weekend in recompense however so we will be enjoying some real racing instead.
Despite the FIA taking command of the Paddock Suite, and therefore DHORC not being able to run a slot car track, DHORC Members Matt Holland and I visited Donington Park as guests of the Donington Park organisation during the afternoon of 29Sep12. There was some superb on track action which started with the British F3 which we watched from both Redgate Corner and the Old Hairpin.
By the time the British GT practice began we were up in the paddock grandstand
Donington then offered Matt and I our very own Corporate Suite looking over Redgate where we stayed for the rest of the afternoon to watch the first FIA GT1, F3, Ginetta and Formula Ford races of the weekend, the GT1 providing the best machinery.
As the evening drew in the British GTs came out to Qualify, with glowing carbon brakes and firing spitting exhausts.
We may have missed out on running a track but the racing more than made up for it thanks to the generosity of Donington Park
