Thanks for the dimension info and advice about springs guys.
I think I'll try to get away with adding about 1mm depth to the shell. The difficulty is locating the upper wishbone mounting points within the body, without fouling the motor/axle housing.
I'll find out if a hardware shop still exists around here and try to get some tumbler springs.

Materials should be arriving tomorrow, so hopefully by the weekend I'll be able to start messing about with some test pieces.
