Brushless Slot cars

Hi All,

I have been looking into other hobbies recently as I saw an RC plane and thought I'd better give that a go too! Anyhow, these days all the electric motors in RC planes seem to be brushless. Is that something that we'll see with Slot Cars in the future? Are there any already?

Obviously they are more efficient and probably more reliable and have less wear, surely that'd be a good thing?

Cheers,
Damo.

Hi

I have been looking in on various sites a couple of times a year at development of these motors, the hope is that they become available as a swap out part for the existing brushed ones.

They should prove very beneficial to digital users as there should be no arcing etc which gets transmitted into the chip.

These motors should provide a much closer running tolerance as well so things should be more even accross a field of cars, brushes have a big impact on revs and current draw.

fuel burn on rms will drop significantly and throttle response will be very linear.
Hi

independent chips, adjustable braking control on the fly,add in a led for laptiming and lc and lighting off the chip

Hi

Scorpius and 02 are essentially already rc cars, would love to see what effect these motors have on any of the digital platforms.

Hi

the days of rms based throttle curves and the need for throttles to be programmed with curves could be coming to and end, everything done on the motor board

Hi

interesting to read that most seem to be thinking of speed, well for digital use only I'm thinking increased reliability is the key reason to look at this topic, would you rather be installing without the need for the pesky little ferrite men everytime....

Maybe there still needed though, anyone now

Hi

all looks like win win from my point,no arcing or sparking, linear power and how good this could be for events where cars are set up to controlled regulations with tight tolerances but use old fashioned brushed motors that vary greatly in performance.

looking forward to seeing how things develop

Hi

err no, that particular model belongs to Zoot

Hi

my original thought for brushless was maybe they run a lot quite than brushed, easy to find out if you have the gear, fit the motor and remove all supression and test..

Hi

if you want more interest in topics some proof of concept helps immensely, I've only read blanket statements and quotes from data sheets....does the car run with ssd digital yet, has it been tested with any supression removed, did it use a lot less fuel in rms if used with ssd...

No answer to the above then it's only been tested for speed and several members have already said there not interested if speed is the only goal. ..

Apologies if the above has been answered and reported on here but to much guff to trawl through so I may have missed it...
