I'd also maybe check you're not getting a short circuit somewhere around the braids, if it has a resistor thingy that might be worth looking at (or taking off, these were to stop interference with TV sets possibly?)

I recently got and old Spanish E-type and the top of the body jars the tyres, maybe check the wheels can turn freely too?
