Lovely car, I had been bidding on a couple of these...
Strangely I remember when they came out and I was pretty sure that it was hyped as a higher performance version.
But in reality it has the johnson111 motor with less power than a standard electra and much less than the "super electra" that was out for a year at the launch of the electra/javelin models

... except it used a different body, it has extra ribs underneath. I'm sure I read somewhere that there was a Novo (russian) version, if so then the 111 motor makes sense as they converted the lambo and the mirage to take the 111.

This is my Tiger during vintage race two weeks ago:

This particular car has very long history in our family. My little brother bought it 1975. Lot of very nice memories from my childhood... I race with my C7 Mini Cooper and my brother with C13... Sometimes I have used it in different vintage/historic race events.

Tiger hasn't any chance against Electra or Javelin. Motor isn't only reason. Actually Johnson 111 is quite fast motor. Key point is higher center of gravity of Tiger. And poorer handling because of this. The guide blade of Tiger is different and higher.

I don`t think the Tigers driver was made with an open faced helmet on, but Mirrormans looks all the better for it!
There were several slight changes to the Electras body during it`s production run.
Nice to see other ones out there!!
Cheers

QUOTE (finscale45 @ 4 May 2011, 20:28) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Mirrorman: Do you have original driver's head in your Tiger Special? I have never seen Tiger with open helmet driver's head.

Regards

Hi, that's the original head that came with the car when I purchased it, I couldn't say wether it's the original head or not. It seems to me though that nothing is really set in stone when it comes to toys, and I'm sure that Tiger Special production would not have been holted just because they ran out of full face drivers helmets ... they'll use what ever they have at hand, in this case an open faced helmet rather than a full faced helmet.

I've seen the same sort of thing with other British companys like Dinky toys, Corgi, Matchbox and different Tri-ang toys I've had through my hands over the last 25 or so years of collecting toys. Were a production toy can differ at times from the norm, like the Matchbox colour variants, and it can drive some of the purists I know slightly nutty to put it mildly. Not that I'm saying that anyone on this forum is nutty ... well maybe slot car nuts.

Cheers, Michael
