Can we continue to use......... splash screen

2978 Views 38 Replies 18 Participants Last post by  CMOTD
is it just me, or is every screen refresh for others this evening coming up with that really annoying splash "Can we tailor ads......" blah blah blah?

This forum is becoming unusable for me at the moment. Can't see any obvious ways of stopping them, currently.

If I disable my ad-blocker (Adblock Plus) I get the same annoying pop-up, but with Adblock Plus enabled everything is free of interruptions. I'm using Firefox with Windows 10.

If you're not already using an ad-blocker, try one. They're unobtrusive and make browsing a much more pleasant experience.

Never thought I'd say this, but guess I'll be installing firefox again!
Testing testing testing

Seems to be a lot better behind the company firewall this morning - no pop ups, but the perception is it is running rather slower than normal. But I'll give it the benefit of the doubt for a while this morning.
it's all over my phone this morning
very annoying

ABP has started selling holes to advertisers, so it is a bit more porous than it used to be. The current adblocking plug-in of choice for Firefox and Chrome is uBlock Origin (not just uBlock, that's out of date). I also use NoScript in Firefox to block scripts, but that adds a certain amount of additional burden on the user to manage the sites they want to allow scripts from (as I write this, the page is showing scripts being run from nine different domains, three of which I am still blocking). The Firefox and Chrome plug-ins will run quite happily on Android devices, too, but since we are an Apple-free household, I can't atest to their behaviour on iOS devices.

A similar thing has been popping up on various sites recently. I believe it is something to do with Google's new advertising policy which has been forced on them by the EU. It should only be a one time thing though. Just click on 'yes' or 'no' then 'I agree' and it should disappear permanently. It does for me.

Alternately, as others have suggested, install an adblocker.

If anybody is having a continuing problem with it then let us know and we will take it up with VS.
I belong to another forum (motorbike) that uses IP Board...if you are a site supporter you get it ad free...any chance of that happening here?...pretty please
None whatsoever. If it concerns you then use an adblocker.
I do...it was just a thought

And what about mobile platform? No firefox on ipad!
Popup Blocker for safari possibly.
I press "No" then "agree" and it still persists. I primarily use an iPad and a works laptop that I am not able to install ad blockers on. This is now a major PITA. If it persists, I'll probably end up using this forum less and less. No casual browsing, just club reports and events. Sad.

I have a tablet without an adblocker (running Android) and it's not a one time thing for me on that. I get the pop-up on every page I visit. It's only a one time thing per page: press no, then it's gone for good if I return to that page, but new page, new message. It makes the forum virtually unusable, so if you're able to get VS to do anything about it, I'd be very grateful.
Hi

seems to be back to normal for me now, no more clicking no and agree on every page.....
VS have been notified. Anybody else still having problems?
