Here is a Very rare Italian set by Carloni- Scuderia Draghi. The cars are 1/38th scale and the set was made in 1967. The 2 cars in the set are a Fiat and a Alfa Romeo. The cars are unusual in that they are direct drive. They made 4 different cars plus 2 different extremely rare Vacuum body thingies with metal chassis,also direct drive. I show all the cars we currently have at the end. Come visit.

Great stuff, Bernard.
Unfortunately, the Vinyl tires have eaten up the polystyrene wheels, as on many other slot cars and die cast toys. The two are sworn enemies and the Vinyl acts as the Borg or the Crystalline Entity... (got to know your TV classics...)

Great set and cars Bernard - these are really not easy to find, and the Thingies virtually impossible!

That's as bad a plastic melting situation as what we see on a lot of the early Joma cars... and I don't think there are any spares floating around.

Any way to stop it from getting even worse Philippe?

yep, it is. One of my favorite early rides, although not as a daily driver! Way too Italian temperamental. But on a curvy mountain road, aahhh. In the model car world, it just doesn't exist, although I think I saw a 1/43 diecast once (very expensive).

yes its a fiat 124 sport coupe one of the nicest cars I ever owned ,quite advance for the early70s , had a 5 speed box ,discs all round and a wonderful revvy1430cc aurelio lampredi twin cam engine

They later boosted the engine to 16oo cc and above , but the altered body styling was nowhere near as good great little cars that were only spoiled by their penchant for rust

I s'pose that was the Russian steel era. I had a couple of Lancia Delta's that were the same. The Beta also had the same reputation. How things have improved - nowadays most cars never see the inside of a domestic garage but rust is rare.

Correction: it is a Fiat, but an Abarth. The proof: tires are melted from the power increase!

And Don, no there is nothing one can do other than replace the wheels (now melted..) with aluminum jobs and any tires one fancies.
Vinyl will eat any other styrene based plastic. It's the Borg. "You Will Be Assimilated..."

It's not the tires that were eaten, it's the wheels! The tires had them for lunch, dinner and breakfast and are now belching the excess.

So right Tony , at the time , I had a 1750GTV Alfa , I lived close to the sea , and the rust was unstoppable ! My friend had a Fiat 124 (the 1600cc motor)..again, the rust was terrible! Both cars less than 5 year old . Mine was a hand me down from my father ! And so ironic , my friend who owned the Fiat 124 was also called Tony ! There was not much difference in performance between the Alfa and Fiat! Though the Alfa had a bigger motor, the Fiat was lighter ! Both had twin cam motors ! But, the Alfa had a nicer tone to the exhaust ! Later on, I received another hand me down , a Porsche 911E , my father updated to a 3 litre 911SC ( well, not really upgraded , he collected nice cars) ....the 911E went like a rocket for the time but took ages to pull up... the only thing I done to it was to upgrade the brakes and add a power assist servo. I used the same Servo Porsche added to the 924,which was from a VW transporter van ! It was a great car. Zig
