Finally got to use my home track in anger today. Had 5 racers competing just racing standard Tomy turbos, but it was good fun. One of the guys hadn't raced before and is interested in coming along to a SCHORC meet.

As requested here is the race report from the inaugural Kempston HO meet!

We ran 1 class which was standard tomy turbos with sports car bodies. 5 racers attended, all but 1 had done some HO racing before. Due to marshalling requirements we ran 3 car races and didn't use the inside lane.

Heat 1 kicked off with Bob, Dave and Lee. This was a close affair as most of the races were with Bob putting in consistantly good times to take the win by about 6 inches on the track. Lee was 4 laps down due to some early offs but showed good pace between crashes and grabbed the quickest lap of the heat (4.977) despite having not raced before.

Heat 2 was Ethan, Bob and Dave. This was even closer than the first race with 1 lap separating the leader from the other 2. After an early crash that cost him quite a bit of time Ethan put in a great series of sub 5 seconds laps at the end of the race to take the win by a lap, grabbing the fastest lap (4.746) and beating his dad in the process!

Heat 3 featured Jim, Ethan and Bob. Jim took the win amongst cries of home advantage from the competitors! Bob exacted revenge on his son with a second place finish. Only 2 laps separating 1st from 3rd. Ethan secured the fastest lap of the race and the day on the final lap with a 4.547.

Heat 4 was Lee, Jim and Ethan. Yet another close race with the drivers separated only by inches on the track. Lee having settled in quickly took the win and the fastest lap (4.627) from Jim with Ethan just 1 lap down.

The final Heat was contested by Dave, Lee and Jim. Lee again put in the fastest lap (4.948) but several big crashes cost him. Dave and Jim were slower but consistent and both finished on the same lap with the best score of the day (28 laps)

Lap totals after the heats were as follows
Jim 79, Dave 78, Bob 76, Ethan 73 and Lee 70

The B final was contested by Bob, Ethan and Lee with Bob having the pick of the lanes.

Bob drove consistantly as he had done all day and took the win by a couple of laps with a good score of 27 and hopped up to the A final.

The A final was Jim (in the preferred green lane), Dave and Bob.

The initial racing was close and after 20 all racers were within 1 lap, however an incident involving a small child and some power leads meant that the back straight aquired a rather severe bend. It was agreed that the race should be restarted!

The restart was messy and there were several crashes early on. Jim took the early lead with the others chasing hard. After 10 laps Dave's car crashed and refused to restart putting him out of the race. It was later discovered it had ingested some carpet fluff! Jim eventually took the win by 2 laps from Bob who claimed the fastest lap of 4.887.

A good mornings racing.

Hopefully next time the track will be on a board away from carpet fluff and small feet!

Steve - For you youngsters that's just over 15cm

Al - No pics i'm afraid, I took a little video but it's not great, I will post it up later.

John - That track looks awesome. I've done some scalextric on my carpet at home but that's about it. I would be well up for some racing though. I've got a couple of 1:32 cars. Just let me know when. You up for trying some HO racing?

Regards

Hi Jim,

I've raced HO at Kings Lynn once and enjoyed it. My main interest is scratchbuilt retro and vintage stuff and i race at the Wellingborough club when I can. I'm also a member of the N London club but I haven't managed to get there for quite a while.

I'll get in touch once the lap counting system is up and running.

Cheers

John
