Is this the case? Thus it brakes as soon as you let off the accelerator then? No new controller needed? Does anyone see a difference?

Thus should the digital feature comparison matrix be updated?

I believe the matrix has been updated with that (though awaiting ghost car errors to be included).

However - it is not clear how you can tell if the car/set you are buying has the old no brake chip or the new one, or how to fix the cars you already may have bought

Yes, the new Pro-X do have dynamic braking now.
No, unfortunately there is no hint etc. on the box or the label.

But can can look at the production date that is marked on the chassis. All my cars without brakes are from 05/04, all cars with brakes are from 09/04 or later.

You can test it by lifting the rear axle up and releasing the controller immediately. Cars with brakes stop the rear axles immediately.

How strong are the brakes on the new PRO-X cars? I prefer my cars with milder brakes, not like the cars that almost stop when the brakes are applied after a long straight.

Do you like to drive the new PRO-X cars with brakes or the older PRO-X cars without brakes?

this explains so much........
I bought the starter set oval and also got 2 additional cars to go with it and noticed the additional cars can almost stop on a dime if I want them to. I have been tuning these cars and fighting with them because I thoguht something was causing drag to cause them to stop quickly with no throttle on.

I did the little test noted above (can't beleave in all my time spent on these 2 cars I never thought of it) and sure enough instant stopage. With the ones that come in the box it will stop roughly with in 1-1.5 seconds. Big difference when flying down the straight into traffic.

To answer this I prefer with brakes. The reason is that when fighting in traffic the brakes can really save a crash. Another reason is that when diving into a corner there is more skill to release the throttle slightly to maintain the maximum speed, than to let go completly, coast the corner, and then give her hell again. It is all about throttle postion now and evelopes more skill once again.

Just my 2 cents.

This is based on my racing with my buddies. I must say that I am happy my buddies are like me and when we race it is all about realism. No crash and bash events on my equipment. We all will slow down to save a crash. (maybe they dont want to walk around the table to reset the cars again). But We love tailing some one and waiting for the right moment to make our move or squeezing between 2 cars to pass that one slower guy with a transmission problems.

I now only use the cars with no brakes for ghost cars.

This is 100% correct. My 2 cars that dont have braking were made 08/04 and both cars that have braking are made 09/04. 1 months difference....and what a difference it is.

So with all this said....no brakes for crash and bash (who would use then anyway).
Brakes for a night of fun!

Thanks for this information. All my cars are 08/04 and do not have brakes.

The interesting thing is that based on the dates, they were able to fix the problem before the system went public. The system didnt hit shelves until Oct/Nov, so they made changes before the public had a chance to try the first batch. That said, it probably wasnt a design error, but a manufacturing error.
