I've noticed that Carrera changed the chassis style on their cars some time in the last couple of years from being a horrid magnet that slit along to the current twin magnet setup.

Does anyone know when this happened so I know not to but the old style to race (although still gorgeous for the shelf)

Thanks

About 2008/2009 many of the chassis designs have changed. Now most of the cars have a flat chassis (meaning with no pod) with two magnets that are fixed inside the chassis.
The new Capri chassis.

I think you might consider going back a few more years, as well. Prior to the modern dual-magnet setup, Carrera used a hybrid of the old sliding magnet in the front plus a rear bar magnet such as is currently used. Those cars handle pretty well too...and go back to at least 2004. See the 166 Mille Miglia Uovo for example.
