Hi All

The other day I got an offer that I could not pass and decided to buy some Carrera digital.

I have plenty of SSD track and I am not going to stop using it. But for a while I would like to try Carrera.

Also the idea is to go native with oXigen and run both 1/32 and 1/24 cars.

The size of my table is 2.3 x 5.5 m but I can push the long size up to 5.7 m.

This is my first attempt at designing a carrera track that should suit also 1/24 (no experience at all here).

So I have tried to leave around room for borders and use as little as possible R1s.

The track should be for 5 to 6 cars.

This layout is based on one I have found googling around for carrera tracks.

Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions.

At the moment I have only space for one track. So far I have changed layout almost once a year.

We run championships that last around 11 weeks based on a specific class (currently racing carrera GT3). So after a couple of classes we might want to change layout.

Next time I might even change track type. I will take the scalex track down and put up the carrera.

Race on it a for a year and then change again...

Hi Gio
As you may have seen, I am currently building a large home Carrera layout, I am interested to see your comment on R1 curves. These are very dominant in a Sport layout and for many, too tight radius. But with Carrera I find they are much less restrictive, more like Sport R2 curves. Indeed too many R2/3/4 curve combinations can lead to curves that can be taken flat out with a good car and provide no challenge to the driver.
As ever you will need to build and test your layout to make up your own mind up, but my recent experience suggests that the Carrera R1 curve should not be demonised as the Sport R1 curve rightly is.

Hi Steve

I agree with you that the R1 carrera are more similar to the R2 scalex. But I am thinking running 1/24 and I was told to limit the number of carrera R1.

If the layout will be not challenging or too flat-out then I can always change it. I do not do any landscape on my layouts so changing it will be a matter of reassemble the pieces on a different configuration.

Hi, I have both Scalextric and Carrera layouts. The main difference between the two systems is that Scalextric track is based on 45% radius combinations and Carrera chose to use 60% Radius combinations. If you add essential borders to each system then both systems occupy the same square space. I could superimpose my Carrera and Scalextric layouts one over the other except where I have not changed a Carrera radius 1x60% to 1x90% by adding a 1x30%. Scalextric based their layout geometry on a square, Carrera based theirs on A Rhomboid.Space requirement can be the same for both systems but Carrera can handle 1-24th scale cars.

Correct Mr Flippant. I have just ordered two rather nice looking high detail 1-24 scale Rc battery powered cars a Bentley Continental and a BMW from Hawkins Bazaar to which I will fit scalextric guides to run them on my Carrera track as I have no 1-24th cars in my collection and would like to see that size of car running. At £14 each they look to be a bargain buy. Bryan B.

Hi Mr Flippant and guys, Hey those two 124th RC cars arrived today and Gee they are big and beautifull. I fitted Scalextric unpowered guides in a matter of minuites without any mods to the cars needed and boy do they go. Its interesting that they drove without fault with no borders around the track just barriers. Bryan B.
