Thanks J-C. You're not negative just realistic.

Well. This has been an experience for me. Some people claim the "special" Carrera guide works fine one Sport track...My experience is quite different - especially when it comes to R1 and XLC's. Except for Wraith I have not seen anyone else mention this problem before.

So far - the costs are a lot to say the least, and the project has been stalled. I'm looking for someone with really good CAD 3d skills that is willing to do some voluntary work as the quote the design company has come back with is out of my price range.
I don't know if I'm being unrealistic but a $1000.00 for 2 days CAD work is a lot.
If no-one volunteers then I guess this project is dead in the water.

I have E-mailed my brother-in-law who occasionally does 3d CAD work. He thinks the price you have been quoted is about right as far as the UK is concerned. He would need more information before he could quote for the work. As you say, what is needed is a slot-car enthusiast who is willing to do the work for nothing.

Thanks FloydFan.

Does not have to be completely free...I'm willing to pay. Just not $1000.00 for 2 days...

I think I'm in the wrong business if that is the going rate....

I directed my brother-in-law to a picture of the alternative Carrera guide keel. He cannot understand why any CAD work should take 2 days. Without seeing your design of course, he thinks the work should only take 2 hours for a competent CAD worker! He has suggested you try this website where you may find someone to do the work for a lot less.

It's quite basic yes and that is why I could not understand it as well....

It's: Take guide flag A off, of guide assembly A, and remove guide flag B from guide assembly B....and attach guide flag A to guide assembly B...end of.

Thanks for the link, I'll take a look.

what is the problem?
is it the magnets?- difficult to run cars on sports track without. guides work fine with my carrera in ninco but I did change the pickup arrangement and hence the flag and braid spacing! the carrera braids are not right as they are for the 'stainless steel type carrera track'' the new guides will have to use a different type of braid to work 100%.
are you sure it is not the track?
however if you run magnets some of the tweaking is a waste of time as the experience will not happen and will be a complete waste of money
I like the whole idea. Go Keeto, I would buy some and if Carrera is smart, they buy a lot, put them in every new box and sell it as "this car is compatible with Scalextric".........

Keeto

If you're still searching for someone to do this 3d CAD work then I have news. My brother-in-law has agreed to at least look at it. If you E-mail me at [email protected] I will give you more details.

Any progress on this one Keeto?
Nope, I've had a change of personal circumstances, so money needs to be saved.....

....BUT, the last time I had my track down, the red guides seem to have worked fine without any modification.....don't know if it's my track that has "worn" - I know the margins are really small on fixing this issue.

Hi,

Very good idea. Please don't forget about us guys at the bottom of Africa!
Also another mod I would like to see is a bit of a weaker spring on the self centrering guide as this also causes the car to hesitate around the bends and crossovers.

Bryan
BRM also makes Sport compatible guides that pop in. The analog club I run with is doing a Carrera Can-Am series next, and there are sport and classic tracks in the rotation, so we needed a solution. Cutting/filing is one possible solution, but we went on a hunt for an existing replacement that worked. Yes, you can get the Carrera pack (made in black at first, but then red, I believe), and they DO work in Sport/Classic track. Problem with that pack is that, at least here, you only get two guides and a bunch of braid you don't need for about $10. Then we found that BRM make a 3 pack of replacements that are the same, and tested well on sport and classic with R1 turns. That pack is about $7 for the three guides. Although more than I'd like to pay, it was the cheapest option, and readily available, and quick and easy. It was worth it not to have to trim and sand the stock guides, especially as those are still good for wood tracks.
I'm glad you didn't dump a bunch of money into this project. It would have cost way too much to get the cost down to a palatable level for most people.

The BRM part # is S-126, I believe.

Thanks, Greg. I'll definitely take a look at the BRM bits.

Yeah, instead, the US government is getting all my bucks cause it's costs a lot of $$$$ to move to the US....

Well, be sure to move to Washington state, then. ;-)
Hi does anyone know if it's easy to get these guides in the UK, without having to import them?

I've done a quick google search and mainly found US suppliers. I see Pendle have BRM parts listed but not this specific item.
From the BRM website it looks like that part is for >2009 cars, any idea if it fits pre 2009 too?
Probably not. It's an entirely different guide system. For guides prior to this pop out blade thing, you'll need to trim them.
Thanks Mr F.

Having had a closer look today, my KTMs are actually made in 2009 and have a separate guide flag that pops out so maybe this would work.
that's exactly the system the replacements are for, and they'll work great. In fact, I'll be grabbing another pack for some Carrera cars I recently got.
