Hi!
I wonder if someone has experience of converting newer Carrera cars (1:32) so SSD. I recently bought an Carrera Evolution car (Mercedes AMG C63 DTM) and converting it using the C7005 chip. Works great but.......... i would really like to get the lights working. Any tip?
(Hate to admit it, but Carrera is lightyears from Scalextric nowadays with tons of cool cars for thoose who like real racing and real racing cars. The one advantage there may be to Scalextric is the vintage F1 cars..... other than that its just the same cars year after year, maybe if your lucky - a new livery)

If you get a new digital chip from Scale (ver H) there are 4 pads that you can use for lights - you will need to use the soldering iron but it works great.
Of course you will need also to remove the DPR hatch from the chip and connect the guide and motor wires from the car to the chip.
Another solution is to get the sp15 chip from slot it and build a lightkit like this: Homemade Lightkit for oXigen B1/B2 chips (and SP15)

Yeah, the F1 chip has no easy way to connect lights, so you're left with powering them from the braids or the motor, depending on what kind of LEDs they are. Most of the light boards in slot cars these days have the necessary resistors and such on the little PCB that the LEDs are on, so it's safe to power them from either the rails or the motor. If you power them from the rails of an SSD track, test the polarity before soldering and insulating, because one way will work, and the other will not. Same with powering from the motor, actually.

If you want the fancy brake lights, then you'll need to do a little more DIY as Grunz points out.

Thanks guys! If MrFlippants theory about the resistors are correct that would be a great solution for me. I´ve done a lot of soldering on RC cars (motors, ESC´s and stuff), but with slot cars everything is just a bit to small.... :)

Manny thanks again! I will for sure try. Yesterday I tested a race with the Scalextric app for the first time (with this car) and noticed that the lap counting didnt work. I thought I`ve read somewhere that you have to paint the edge of the red guide blade black, but that didnt work either. The power base is an ARC Pro. Ever having this problem?

There are three things: The guide blade must be completely black, the car must have an ID assigned and the LED must be between 6 and 14 mm behind the blade. Too much or too little and the laps won`t be counted...

The IR to guide distance only matters with the ARC Pro, and can be resolved by doing the gray wire mod (though this disables analog lap counting).
Chips will default to ID1.
I'm a big fan of the BRM replacement guide. Same length and depth, but thinner, and black. No problems on any Sport track, even the inside lane of an R1.
