Carrera Track: Advice on tuning other car bands?

2291 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Julian_Boolean
I am having so much fun with my Carrera Digital - but I really want to try out some other analog cars by different manufactures.

I could use some advice on how to set up these other brands for carrera track. I have a small analog test track. I have tried a scalextric and a slot.it car.

The scalextric GT40 seems to run pretty good out of the box.

I had read some many compliments on the slot.it brand, I bought a slot.it Nissan R390.
A beautiful looking car - but I am having a couple problems:
Brushes not having good contact with carrera track.
Car seems to de-rail easier than the scalextric.
Maybe something with the guide? Tips appretiated.

I plan to set up my larger carrera "digital track" this weekend - removing the digital components and adding the automatic lane crossing and operating in analog mode. I'll be able to compare my carrera digital car running in analog mode to the scalextric and slot.it.

I'll take any advice that will help improve the performance of other brand cars on carrera track.

You are welcome to point me towards posts that already discuss this. I have tried "searching" without much luck.

Thanks!

Jon

Hi Jon

Firstly I am surprised that the Slot.It Nissan R390 is not much good as one of our crew has got one and it's very hard to beat in a race against my Carrera Nissan GT500 - even with a 25K motor in it instead of the standard 18K - The only thing he did was to replace the tyres with silicon and as we run Digital he added a Carrera digital chip.

One of the main things with other brand cars are that the guide is smaller in depth than the Carrera ones so they have to be driven into corners a bit slower.

On other brand cars the braids are generally closer together but all you need to do is tease them out a bit so they get good contact.

As my track is always digital I install a Carrera digital chip in non Carrera cars and have no issues running them.
After having so much fun using Digital I see no point in running an analogue track.

This link shows a number of non Carrera cars I have chipped and also some Carrera Evo classic cars that are also chipped but they were never intended to have chips installed.

Hope this helps

Me again Jon

Just for interest sake I had a look back on some of our race statistics and I found this.

Running Carrera Nissan GT500 with a 25K Slot-it motor best time on my 21M track was 6.9 sec

Running in the same race Slot.It Nissan R390 (think it has a 21K motor) the time was 5.99 sec.

Hope you find this as interesting as I did.

Cheers
