I have gathered together enough Carrera track to assemble a 9' x 5' Ascari circuit.
The only space I have available is in the loft replacing an existing wooden track up there.
Problem with the wooden track has been keeping the copper tape stuck down due to the summer / winter temperature differentials.

Question is, if I leave the Carrera layout assembled will I get distortion problems when the loft heats up in the summer?
If thought likely, will just removing strategic track sections get round the problem?

Hi Gasowder

I don't think you'll have problems as long as you make sure you don't pin anything down.

My Ninco track has been up in the loft for years and I soon learned the problems of expansion and contraction! Obviously I realised that things do move in the heat and cold, but was astounded by how much
. I have had to leave around 3 inches at each end of the main straight (which is about 15 feet long) and about an inch everywhere else. The total area of your track is much smaller than mine, so you probably won't get so much movement.

The only other things to consider are usage. When it's too hot or cold, I may not use the track for a few weeks and when I go back up it does require a good clean - hoover the surface for dust and WD40 the rails.

Never had a rust problem either and I'm sure you won't with Carrera either.

Can't be sure about warping though as I have never used Carrera, but being a stiffer plastic than Ninco I wouldn't mind betting you'd be all right.

good luck

My Carrera track is in the loft. The longest straight is 8 pieces long. I don't have a problem with expansion and you won't have any corrosion issues because Carrera rails are stainless steel.

Thanks guys,
Looks like I won't have a problem then as the 9' x 5' Ascari straight is only 4.25 pieces long

And leave it free to move not pinned down.
Good news on the corrosion front as well, I was forever cleaning the tarnished copper tape as well as keeping Evode in business gluing it back in place!
