Hi All
Just a quick ? can anyone tell me the slot depth and width of a standard carrera track piece?
I am just about to start building another routed track and i found on my last one that the carrera cars really struggled.

According to this link http://www.hotslots132.com/tracksets-a-26.html the depth is 1/4 inch (= 6.33 mm if the inch dimension is exact)

Cars don't go well if the slot is too shallow for the guide (or the guide too deep for the slot) could that have been the problem with the earlier track? Cars are not worried by a deeper slot, so if in doubt make the slot a bit deeper.
Cars are not usually worried by a wider slot width but there is a problem if the slot is too narrow and the guide sticks in the slot. (This problem should be obvious)

Carrera guides are also much longer than other brands, so you can't have as tight a radius for those cars as you can for other cars. You can either trim down the guide, or make sure all your turns are nice and wide for those enormous guides to go through them smoothly.

If you are going to rout, I would go at least 8mm deep on the slot. This leaves your options open to run just about any car ie 1/24, plafit etc. The inside corners at our local track are pretty tight, I'd say somewhere between outside R1 and inside R2. Our 1/24 plafits go around no problems, and those guides are big. Probably best to do a test rout of your tightest corner on some scrap to see how the Carrera cars go around.

Carrera guides are even longer than Plafit guides. Probably the same thickness and depth, though.

Don't have anything to give accurate measurements of depth but what I can measure is the Carrera guide is 25mm long and the Scaly guide is 20mm long

Hi Wayne,

the slot of the Carrera track system is 3 mm wide. Regarding the depth there are several sources, some say 6,9 mm, others 7,0 mm.

Assuming Scootcar's measurements are correct, the 1/24 plafit guides are the same length as Carrera.

I had to cut about 5mm off the length of the guide on 2 Carrera cars I have to go around my Scaley track (tightest corner R2). However, most routed tracks have 1/8" (3.2mm slot width) as opposed to Scaley approx 2.5mm (I measured a track piece and it varied from 2.4 to 2.6mm slot width). This would have a significant effect on how tight you can have your corners, they dont have to be large and wide, in fact they can be very tight. Go with min 8mm deep and 3.2mm wide slot and I cant see any problems

To give an idea, I have no problems with this 1/24 Plafit going around my tightest corner.

Wow, that 5 cm difference looks like a lot more, but I can believe it. That's the more common Carrera guide size.
There are, however, longer Carrera guides, such as those massive keels used in the Pro-X cars (I believe) that use a series of holes for car ID or some nonsense. I'm surprised those things work even on Carrera's huge track, they're so long.

Yea that's the old Pro-X guide alright a massive 42mm long.

It does go around the Carrera track without binding.

What is the rail spacing of Carrera Go track (1:48) compare with its 1:32?
In a hobby store they had the Go track and I measured it’s rail at 1/8 and spread distance from outside rail to outside rail to be 13mm.

is that the same as Carrera132?
