I agree, Mike. The P4 is a beautiful car but, having been imbued with bias, prejudice and paternal brainwashing since my earliest days, I prefer Zuffenhausen's penmanship.

A few of the P4's contemporaries below. 1966-71 was quite a period of development for all manufacturers. I can't think of one sports racing car from this period I dislike.

See? You’ve done it now Laurence! You have put a Chaparral 2F up there too! I also love the Porsche 907 K too!

All very great cars, Mike. Beautiful, fast cars that provide the stepping stone link to today's aero and tech. This was the start of the modern era, largely thanks to luminaries like Dr Ferdinand Piech and Jim Hall. What started with Porsche 906 in 1966 and ended with the 917 in 1971, with many fabulous and fast machines in between, this has become the golden epoch of sports car racing for me.

Porsche 910, Porsche 906, Ferrari P4 and the Chaparral 2F. We're there ever four more greater masterworks in the world of prototype sports car racing? Yes. The 917 but these will do for now.

I just can't ever remember the Chaparral, so in all my 600+ cars I don't have one. I can't count the number of 917s though....

The Chaparral 2F has a special place in my heart. Back in the late 60’s, I used to go to the model shop in Oxford Street, Swansea where they had a 4 lane wood track and that is where I spent the money I earned from my morning newspaper round. I used to buy a model slot racing car magazine which used to have extremely detailed drawings of all sorts of cars, from F1 to Minis. I bought a vac-formed 2F and a Riko brass chassis with (I think) a 16D Mabuchi motor and Taylormade gears. With a nice fat pair of sponge rear tyres, it went rather well. I did a similar thing with a vac-formed Ford Falcon too, but it was the Chaparral that did it for me. I made the wing from thin brass topped off with a wing lovingly made from balsa wood. Great days!

Nice story, Mike. I'm similarly addicted to the 2F, which is why I've got four slot versions. An abfab car in all respects, and the aesthetic equal of anything else.

Two more Ninco 911/934s added to the collection. Especially happy to finally get the Danone car which I've searched for quite a while but have become rare and expensive. Must say that the price for this pair was quite reasonable. Both were NOS before I tried them on track the other day.

£9.95 delivered from ebay, couldn't resist View attachment 341961
I did similar a couple of years back and gave it a respray and a few tweaks - sadly a bit too much 'orange peel' on the finish but it's a bit damp in my garage... well worth the effort though, they run well with a bit of work

Looks good where did you get your decals from?
received some cars yesterday. They say the postman always rings twice but mine only ever ring once but when two postmen arrive that could be twice. The first one, my normal postie came with a package from Spain, or of that later, and the the parcel postie came with not one but five packages. It never rains but it pours.

One package didn't have any cars in it, just some vintage parts a chassis and two motors. As for the cars...

First a couple of more Scalextric Gp C cars, a Porsche 962

This is one of the cars without light and the only sign of damage is the light cover. It runs fairly well but not with a lot of grip so a little tail happy. With it came a Mercedes Sauber C9

This one have a full set of working lights but not a good runner. The braids aren't making good contact with the contact rails and on the Ninco rally loops the magnet is stopping the car. Keeping with the Gp C cars the next package had another Sauber but from Slot.It this time

All seems to be standard apart from the crown gear which has been changed for a blue 26t.

Next package and a Revell Shelby Cobra Daytona

This is the fifth of these I have now, along with three other makes of body. Sticking with Cobra'sand revell the last package had a Copper King Cobra or Cooper Cobra as Revell call it.

The earlier package from Spain had a chassis kit and a couple of motors and this very nice NSR Porsche 917/10

It was on offer and I just couldn't say no at 48.95 eu., even with the postage less than a test car 😁

The Lotus decal looks very lumpy, the indicator lights look like stickers, maybe it's becoming a thing!!!

The BRM 917 must, in my view, be one of the nicest slot cars ever made. I bought an early release. Might have to get another. Fabulous car.

I'm still waiting for mine, pre-ordered it and paid for it at the same time so I know I will get it, just in case I don't have the money at the time it arrives ! Plus it moves me up closer to the front of the line, Cannot wait!

I used a set from the Ostorero kit. The 156/85 was almost identically logo'd so with a few edits these worked perfectly.

I forgot to say that the wings were given some carbon fibre treatment - these are widely available from model shops. I also cut away the shell interior to get a full driver figure in.
