Hi guys,
is it possible to change the wheels on Micro Scalextric cars for something that looks a bit more realistic?
Those 4 spoke things look terrible on road cars, I'm amazed that these wheels have been around for so long and never been updated.
The Johnny Lightning Fast and Furious cars (Skyline, Supra, Eclipse etc) have nice looking 5 spoke wheels, is it possible to swap these onto a Micro axle and if so can they be bought anywhere?
Failing that, anyone know of an aftermarket supplier?

Cheers, and a merry Christmas to all,
Mike

It is, but you will need tools - a wheel press and a wheel puller - if you want to make a good job of it.

That's £20 worth, at least, so it depends on how badly you want to do this.

Do you attend an HO club? If you do somebody will probably have the tools in question.

Cheers guys,
the F430 looks like the best bet, will keep a look out for one or two of those.
I have a BMW Mini that I'm respraying and adding LED's to, so thought some decent looking wheels would be nice.

You have to post pictures of that once it is done

If you would like to come race HO, you would be more than welcome at any of the EAHORC weekend rounds. Depending on where you are in Essex, HONK, SCHORC, LHORC and ECHO could all be fairly easily reached. The HONK track is one of the best permanent HO tracks in the world...

There's a guy in England does etched wheel inserts and sells them on eBay - names Anthill I think. Paint the slot wheels silver, centres black and cover with the inserts. Find him on ebay and ask if they'd suit your cars but I'd have thought they would.

They're dollars, not cents but must work out better than buying whole cars to rip the wheels off - and from his pics they look the business.

I'd guess instead of £20 on wheel puller/presses you could get a few inserts? Not looked at his prices in a while. Search under 1-64 slot in Europe.

Mr Hill has a website Doug - google 'custom FX info' - handy for those who don't want to use evilbay.

I would still recommend a wheel press/puller, once you have them you will find uses for them, even if only to straighten an existing wonky wheels. They are certainly a must if you have the misfortune to buy a SG+ with those stupid wheel and tyre design.

That's fantastic, thanks for the heads up, just ordered 3 sets of inserts from the website.

Deane,
mini is coming along nicely, I'll post some pics once the inserts are on it.

Many thanks guys,
Mike
