The Dapretto Chaparral 2F is now available in the UK. Rather steeply priced at £125 each, though.

On the subject of Chaparral's, pictured below is a 2J which Mark Gussin kindly built for me, based on one of Peter Pre's superb resin kits.

With kind regards,

Russell

Also, back in the sixties you could buy these fantastic US model car mags "off the rack" at my local (then London) newsagents - no pre-ordering, heady days for slot racing!
Russel, I'd love to see the plans for the Lotus 72 F1 since it's just about to be released by Vanquish MG. [email protected]

Thanks in advance /Toby
Sure Toby, but the Model Cars plans are of the 1970 Lotus 72. I suspect that VMG is modelling the 1971 Lotus 72D.

Kind regards

Russell
Anyone else out there want to join me in nominating Russell Sheldon for an OBE on the new years honours list?
This new 2F is way off in all directions. The old Lancer (by the way, never produced by Cox) is right on.
Peter pre's 2J is also very correct.

Bad hair day? Makes me wonder about buying their cars. How was the 908?

Hi Dennis,

I think that you may be confusing Proto-Slot Kit, who make the 908, with Dapretto, who make the Chaparral 2F.

The Proto-Slot Kit Porsche 908 looks spot-on:

I'm was very disappointed when I saw the Dapretto Chaparral, since their other renderings (a whole range of Ferrari's) are quite superb, as can be seen from the examples below:-

Kind regards

Russell

I must have as I thought Dapretto made the Porsche.
I must say that I was very dissapointed with the 2F, they are now all sold and I shall not be ordering anymore.
But the Ferraris are still superb, I do have a few left in stock if anyone needs one.

- shameless plug though Phil

What type of chassis does it have? Are those Fly wheels?

Chassis are particular to each car and made by Dapretto, most cars seem to use some FLY parts such as wheels and drivers etc.

Talking of getting Model Cars off the shelf at the newsagent in the old days.... I used to get mine delivered a week late and a bit tatty. After the paperboy had read it himself. Nothing to do with anything else on this page though. Sorry. I'll leave you all alone for a bit

That was YOUR copy of Model Cars?
Sorry Howmet

I suppose all this mag nostalgia is a bit off topic but no-one seems that struck by the Chappy anyway. I have my avatar as a sort of excuse though

How often do you have your avatar, if you don't mind me asking?
I do mind actually. It's deeply personal.

Hi RichD

Thanks for your help. I tried to follow your instructions again, and THIS happened.......

Funnily enough, that's what was meant to happen. But I think I regret it now.... How do you chaps take such sharp photos? I didn't snip this out of yesterday's Sun, despite appearances.

Should anyone have any further interest and a very strong pair of glasses, the car is a Lancer 2F, with Cheetah power in a home-made brass sheet sidewinder 'rattler' chassis. Fly Porsche wheels were the best I could come up with at the time, but it looks as if they're destined for the spares bin now. Expect my order, BWA. The car has been raced loads, and spent a good deal of time skidding along on it's flipper ( so THAT's why they call it a flipper!). No structural damage incurred so far... and a propos of the discussion about shutlines elsewhere, I picked out a few on this model with 1/64th" pinstripe decals available from Hannants. But before criticising, remember this car cost about ten quid, plus scrap bin bits. Have fun with fault finding! Best suggestions will be incorporated in phase IX mods. Worts suggestions will probably worm their way under my skin and result in eventual complete nervous breakdown. Be gentle with me....it's my first time.

Are you trying to get in the top ten posters list here howmet? We can all play at that game matey

Blob body eh? Have a good laugh eh? moosh-up eh?

Well, I have to say that looks great to me howmet tx. And ten quid!

As you say not quite right for the BOAC but in this day and age you don't need a letterbox - just put an antenna on the roof and it'll be fine (sorry, I'm milking that gag a bit now)

Seeing the "squared off" rear wheel arch makes me realise that the Dapretto has that wrong too

Nice one tx
